I have a c320 and temps here are aout 100 outside. The fan does get very loud and fast but that is normal. When I turn the car off, sounds like a jet engine turning off.

I was in San Fernando Valley today and the temp. was

around 101 and I did notice that the fan came on with very loud roar while parked. It was like I was standing next to a full size truck. Mine is a clk 500.

The super high speed is normal but make sure you have the TSB performed for the cooling fan wiring harness adapter.

well, if you get the TSB done, should the fan still be loud while in park position? I took my car to my dealer and they say its normal. My family all have MB and they all are loud. So what will this TSB help?

I think it does 2 things, keeps the fan from coming on high speed as often and protects the ecu from shorting out.

Either way get it done.

I had a similar problem, and a dealer discovered and fixed it. Adviser showed me damaged part, but I have no idea what it was.

N/A
my sister's CLK500 has the same problem, dealer claimed that it is caused by the Central Computer Unit failure that sets the fan at it's max speed all the time, that's where the excessive noice comes from, had the dealer replaced the computer chip twice, finally the fan went back to normal. He said it's a common problem for the new CLKs.

Loud engine cooling fan

I see that this is a very old post from 04 but here in 2012, I have an 06 E350 and I agree that the cooling fan is excessively, outrageously loud. Both my dealer and independent mechanic says "that's the way they are". I'd have to say why would ANY car company design a fan so loud that people standing in front of a parked car feel like they should move before something explodes and shrapnel comes flying out of the grill. No joke, I have pulled up near outdoor cafe seating and my E-Class becomes the center of all gazes.

Sometimes, the fan comes on in tornado mode the very moment I start the car, when the engine is cold. For a thermostatically controlled fan, I can't see the logic in that.

Hey MBUSA - Lexus doesn't do this... Infinity doesn't do this.... how about catching up on technology or design.

Both my previous '04 CLK500 and my current '08 CLK63BS have ridiculous fan noise when the AC is on max, but as soon as I turn the AC off the noise stops. I've been told that this is normal but if it's like that all the time you need to visit the dealer.

Same experience with my Clk500, I feel bad putting the AC on max if anyone is walking by. I get the strangest looks and can see the fear in their eyes!

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Mine sounds like a civil defense siren when it's winding up to speed. I was walking through a parking lot yesterday and an E class sedan drove by and it was loud, too.
