Keep or Sell
Hi, I have a 2007 CLK 280 petrol. I would like to keep it and hope it becomes a classic. However, my partner has said we should consider selling as the road tax for it is high, ULEZ keeps going up and have to service and insure it.
Wanted to see what others are doing with their CLK's and is there a way to make it more green?

There are way too many CLK’s made to ever become a classic. Unless you have a CLK GTR, DTM, 55, 63 or 63 BS you will not see these cars go for big money. My 2005 CLK55 Coupe has under 35,000 miles and is full blown Renntech mods and still worth sub $20,000.
If you enjoy the car keep it. Only way to get a CLK more green to lower road tax is to get a more fuel efficient model.

Depending on where you are in the world, you might convert it to LPG. Pollutes far less than petrol, and is much cheaper on fuel consumption, Depends on the country.
Mine, unfortunately, is Diesel. If it were petrol, I would have it converted in a heartbeat.
Regardless of all that, user C280 Sport is right: if you like the car, enjoy it. Think of how much you will have to spend to replace it with something you like as much, or more...and that will also have maintenance, insurance, taxes, etc.

It's a keeper, but not for an investment.
It may very well go up modestly in value, and is definitely the best of it's type, by far.

Even if the CLK’s went up in value it would not be by much. Not much demand for what is basically a C Coupe. Good used car buy is what I like to call these cars.

The cost of maintenance Vs value is a big issue on some of these cars. The AMG Sport level has many pitfalls.
A replacement genuine refurb brake caliper on my 280 recently £400,yes there's europarts alternative etc, check out the cost of that shiny stainless steel AMG exhaust with multi catalytic converters that are very expensive to replace.
What starts out as looking after a quality low mileage mercedes quickly turns into a money pit if you aren't careful,on top of the eye watering road tax.

CLK is more than a C Coupe. It's parts and features are more aligned with the E Class. It just rests on a smaller footprint.

Marketing wise sure… when you look at the car and get into it the CLK is a C Coupe… chassis, suspension and even interior components are shared with the W203. The W207 E Coupe is the same with the W204 C as well. Unfortunately from 1997-2017 CLK/E Coupes we’re not actually that as they were based on the C Chassis. Not a bad thing but just not a true E Coupe. You can also see this when you look at dimensions. Hell my W203 and W209 even drive very similar.

Although in some cases C-class was 4 door version of CLK (c55 amg) ))))))
BTW In Europe there was a better term for that "C coupe": C compact, similar to BMW e46 compact (there were 4 door sedan, 2 door coupe and compact), because technically it's not a 2 door coupe, it's 3 door hatchback
Sorry just having fun

I remember a while back I ran into somebody with a C-Class Coupe...and he was like "yeah bro same car". I always hated the looks of that car. Looks like an unfinished/chopped up CLK.

Haha yeah yeah! The name was "C-Class Coupe" I think officially. Didn't they have AMG versions of that too? It's literally a 2 door C-Class (same dash and everything). The CLK has no C-Class in its name at all. It stands for Coupe Leicht Kurtz (coupe light short). Just like the CL has no C-Class in its name...yet that gets confused for a C-Class too

And how the hell they come up with idea using CL name in w203 :-D At lest they renamed it to CLC for w204 .... freaking marketing ))))))

First time I see the CLC. I always thought the 4 door W204 was horribly ugly....but man...the CLC takes the cake for sure.

That is surprising to say the least. When you say "reliable," are you referring to stuff wearing out / breaking and you fixing these things yourself? My experience is that the useful life of Mercedes suspension components (and numerous other things such as engine-related components) is much shorter than that of other some other cars (Lexus, Toyota). Not only that, but parts are way more expensive than say, a Toyota.
