Smile NEW OWNER- ALIGNMENT ISSUES- CLK350

Hi All,

I just bought a 2009 CLK350 Convt with 48K miles. Nice shape in and out. I really like the car. But it pulls slightly to the right, and I took it to Firestone to align it and they change some settings but said they couldn't change the rear camber much, though they said it's in the range. (On the bubble so to speak) on the left side (drv side) The car has the Sport Suspense. Is it possible that it has different alignment specs then the normal suspension?

Obviously it still pulls somewhat right. I didn't think that an alignment would be all that complicated and that's why I took it to Firestone. But reading more up on these cars and continuing to learn they have some complicate issues at times to fix. I came from having a Toyota Solara Convt, which was pretty trouble free, but I can do some wrenching so I am hoping doing some of things myself, like oil changes, brakes, etc might help keep the maintenance issues down a bit but I do know as I get more into this wonderful car, it can get complicate.

Anyway, if there are special Alignment spec for the sports suspension that would be good to know. Thanks Jack

You might switch the front tires - side to side. Advice from my last alignment provider.

Thanks abqhudson,

That is very logically especially since the tires in the front been on there a long time, hence, the wear pattern may cause the problem since the alignment was somewhat off.

Just make sure the tires aren't unidirectional before swapping them. I just had an alignment done at Firestone and they corrected the issue. They did tell me part of the problem was the tires and that I should replace the rear ones immediately.

I also picked up a clk350 a few weeks ago and noticed alignment pulling to right. Took to tire shop who said virtually the same thing. I read across other threads that pulling to the right is somewhat common, also that unless you get aftermarket parts, service shop can't really do too much to adjust camber and caster (but can adjust toe). They might not be able to adjust the pull that much. For my car I did the alignment and it still pulled to right...I decided that I would try to live with it for now and keep an eye out on my tire wear.

I had the same issue and took the car to an MB dealer nearby (Portland, OR). They changed the “concentric” bolts and did the 4-wheel alignment ($150 USD). Problem went away.
