Ticking after oil change

Did my yearly oil change last night, no problems.
Started her up, and there is a slight ticking briefly, then it went away. Started the car this morning and still a light ticking. I drove the car around the neighborhood got back home and no ticking. Car ran smooth as glass.
Any Ideas? Happy New Year to All

I have heard it's the lifters and goes away after the engine is warm. Mine does it as well on a cold start but quickly dissipates. Others might have a different idea.

DaKing,

I think the ticking is during the brief moment the oil filter housing fills, after that the oil pressure builds. That was the situation with ‘85 380SE, anyway. Don’t hear it much on the CLK 550.

This is a common issue I've had on other vehicles. Part of the solution rests with your oil viscosity choice (most people are using 10W40 - like what their Dad used when they were children) being too high as well as not having had the correct interval fluid changes.

A solution that has worked well for me (on cars with a dipstick) is to drain a small amount of oil (1Qt is best) and top up with a thinner viscosity oil, like ATF. I use ATF partially because it things all of the oil to help it flush through hydraulic lifters and partially because of the extra detergents it uses. If you've ever replaced the filter in your Mercedes transmission, you'll see how CLEAN it is in there!

I put Marvel mystery oil in the engine and drive the car a couple of hundred miles before I change the oil.
I drained the oil it was very clean. I put about 2k miles on the car last year.

Off thread a little bit, but a question regarding my 2004 CLK 320. Purchased new. I am now driving it ~2000 miles a year, I live in the dry desert of Arizona, the car is stored in an air conditioned garage and in pristine condition. Less than 100,000 miles total. My custom is to change the engine oil every year using synthetic oil. I’m wondering with as little use of the car gets whether I can stretch it to an engine oil change every two years? Please let me have your thoughts on this.

if your using a 100% PAO ESTER Oil as opposed to Fully Synthetic oil, then it won't break down and maintains its lubricity. So yes, however I would change the filter 12 monthly regardless as they do break down. The main thing is to use a 100% PAO ESTER OIL. They cost a bit more but are far superior.
