3M plastic saved my paint

Because of my frequent travels to Montreal (from Toronto), I installed the 3M plastic to my hood as well as the bumper.

Last week, I parked my car on a street with a slight slope. A SUV tried to park in front but in the process, his rear tire hit my left front bumper. The side marker was damaged and the surrounding area was all black. I kept my cool and collected the license and insurance information of the other car.

When I got home, I used some car wax to clean out this area. The plastic around the side marker was peeled off a bit and there were some scratches on a few areas. After replacing the side marker( just a clip-on), I went to the body shop to replace the plastic. When the guy in the body shop peeled off the plastic, there was no damage on the paint.

This 3M plastic is great. I may install it on my rear bumper as well.

Actually, I was sitting in my car at the time and I did not know what part of his car hit me. I felt my car shifted a bit and when I got out of the car, I found my side marker broken and the surrounding area being black.

The other car is a Mitsubishi Montero Sport and since his car and his bumper were not black, it had to be one of the tires which hit my bumper.

What is the cost to have it done - approx $400 or so, correct?

The hood of my old Z got dented from the bottom of a spare tire mounted on the back of an SUV.

I think I paid about 400 CAN for the hood as well as the full bumper. The hood portion is about 12-inch wide.

After this incident, I am now a full believer of this plastic.

I recommend this to light colour cars only. It will show too much for darker colour cars.
