A209 Air conditioner system

Hello friends!

I have a 2004 CLK500 convertible. I have owned this car for over 12 years and have never really had a good working air conditioner.

The only time it would push relatively cold air was just after taking to my mechanic and he would top off the freon. He would tell me there is no perceptible leak anywhere. That said, it never cooled strongly. More often than not, it spits out very hot air to where it's best to simply shut the system down.

Is this a known issue for this model series? I have a W221 whose air conditioner has always worked well.

Is there a troubleshooting path to determine whether or not the unit is bad?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers!

It's the same on my coupe. It's pretty bad in the summertime. Had it recharged when I bought it used, but never made much of a difference. Also, the difference in fan speed between the highest setting and the second highest setting is a lot, which is annoying.

The AC in these cars are not great. AC isn’t a strong point to these cars. Unfortunately it’s mostly because the car has so much glass and the system isn’t strong enough to cool the inside. Also, the lack of insulation in these CLK’s makes it so the temp isn’t stable.

Check the R134a level first. Leaks can always happen over time.

Im my CLK cold air works very well, during summer with temp set to lowest you need a coat to stay in the car. In the US the AC system has a big compressor as I read on EPC for some CLK VIN.
Im my car are probably 10 year that I didn’t check the refrigerator and it works well

Use an AC shop who understands how clutch-less variable displacement pump AC systems work, preferably with Mercedes experience.

Most mechanics have little experience on these systems, and normally work on a clutch AC system.

Lots of diagnostic information available in STAR/SDS system.

I have a 2007 clk350, American. My AC used to work well enough, but declined over the past year or two. Now, it barely cools the air on the passenger side only, and ambient air on driver side. I have never topped off the freon on this system or touched the AC. I tried to use those canned 134a bottles from the autoparts store, but the pressure was already pretty high, in fact it looked overfilled. Which is strange because I never topped off the freon, I had to google where the low pressure valve was.... normally your car loses pressure and freon over time, not gain it....

Anyways my question is whether is an artifact of how this clutchless system works? Or if it maintains a certain pressure regardless of freon level.... Yes I measured it with engine running and ac on max.

I am afraid to add any freon given the pressure is already pretty high. So I am taking my car to get a vacuum pulled and freon replaced by weight. Fingers crossed that solves the issue. Last thing I need is to over fill it and blow hoses\compressor\condensers etc....

C-HR’s? What else did they say? They should be able to take the codes and find the issue. If not try a AC specialist shop or a MB shop.
