CLK63 Black Series - Phone Connection

Hi - I have a 2008 CLK63 Black Series coupe. There was no Bluetooth puck in the center console (B 6 787 5878) like I have on my other 2008 CLK, so blindly I went ahead and purchased one on eBay. When I received the puck, I was disappointed to find that there is no connector in the center console! Frankly I assumed there would be, so my bad for assuming something!

I do notice that there's a marked area in the center console where the connector should be. So my question is:
  • Can I safely assume that this car is wired for a telephone hook-up over Bluetooth (via the puck)? All I'd have to do is open up the back panel of the center console and find the white plug that attaches to the connector.
I assume if I reach out to MB, they can sell me the connector (or maybe I'll find one on eBay or somewhere).

The best way would be to open up to see what you have in there and then eBay will likely have everything you need. I went through something similar when figuring out how to make an old E 55 work.

The excavation continues

I opened up the small panel at the back of the central console. Buried in some degraded foam rubber I found two plugs nestled inside a plastic holder. One looks like a fiber optic cable and the other is a rectangular multiple pin socket (male).

Does anyone know how I am supposed to hook up a connector plate to this, so I can attach the Bluetooth puck?

Assuming the rectangular socket is for the phone puck. But what is the fiber connection for?

Simon
This plastic holder is BEHIND the back of the central console. The cables were bundled inside it

Progress...?

I spent some time digging in Mbworld and found someone had the same challenge as me 12 years ago. It seems that my car is only prewired and would require the installation of one or more kits to allow phone connection via Bluetooth. It seems particularly miserly of MB not to include the equipment as standard on such an expensive car when new. My 2007 CLK63 Cabriolet (so slightly older than my BS) came with all this stuff as standard, so it's not a legacy issue of the time (I bought the Cabriolet new, so I know of what I speak).

I guess I'll Park this project for the time being...

It would be prewired based on the audio/command you have (Sat nav/stereo). There are a ton of modules mainly located in the trunk for the telephone system. I removed them all out of my CLK as i went full aftermarket but from memory there are around 3-4 physical modules/boxes with a heap ton of wiring all loomed up together with the Bose and audio system that runs to the back of the car. Im in the uk and some of the items have sold on ebay otherwise i could have sold you all the kit i removed.

Fortunately, I purchased my original Bluetooth puck from cellguy85 on eBay and he was very knowledgeable. He sold me the MHI module that I needed to add to the fiber optic ring in CLK63 and detailed instructions. He even walked me through the instructions over the phone and told me what I could ignore and tips and tricks along the way. Armed with that I performed the work today and now my car has the added Bluetooth connectivity for my phone.

One less project!

As noted above the car was prewired for the Bluetooth puck, but did not have the MHI module or puck installed. I installed these and configured the fiber optic loop, so everything now works.

As for the seats, they are semi-electric. There are some electrical adjustments but the main back and forth adjustment is manual like the old days. All part of weight saving.
