My car developed a rattle/rumble from the rear when going over sharp bumps. I actually assumed for months that it was our childs pram in the back shaking around in the trunk.
We holidayed without the pram and thats when I discovered I still had the noise. It sounded so obvious I figured I could pinpoint it myself. Having taken everything out, including the spare and tools etc it was still their.
I crawled around underneath and with all those plastic covers on I couldn't see or do much but I thought it might be the Parking brake cable banging around, maybe they came off their clip.
I booked it in and when I collected the car the girl told me the rear suspension "cones" had been fitted the wrong way around ! ! !
This sounds like cr4p to me, but whatever its perfect now. Anyone know what they might be on about. I am a mechanic myself, though havent worked on cars for years so although I am familiar with cars in general I am not failiar with the CLK and I never heard the terminology "cones" before. I assume they are refering to bushings of some sort, I didn't have time to ask for a depper explaination, but just wondered if anyone had come across anything similar ?
This is the only problem I've had in 18 months/17000 miles, touch wood !

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I just got my car almost 2 weeks ago and noticed a squeeking noise from the rear driver's side. It sounds like an old mattress spring. Kinda embarrasing going over bumps in town
Brought it to the dealer and it was a bad shock which they are replacing next monday.
Have your shop check each shock

Dear Ben
I have a new CLK 200 kompressor for 2 weeks now with 5 spoke alloy wheels with lowered sport suspension (optional extra) and I have noticed exactly the same thing as you. I removed everything from the back but the sound is still there. So you are saying that the problem is with the suspension?? Should i take it to the garage for inspection???
Thanks.

I also experience a banging noise , it only comes from the nearside rear & when the car goes over potholes ,But feels like somebody has thrown a brick off the car . Dealer has checked it out & there is no apparent sign of any damage .

If you have a rear roller blind check it.....the problem might be there.

Well whatever they told me and whatever they did the noise is gone. It must have started soon after I got it 'cos its more quiet now than I ever remember [Dear Ben

]I will be at the dealer tomorrow, they are fixing the little orange marker for the rear folding seats, and I'll ask exactrly what the problem is.
for anyone else with the noise, visit the dealer as soon as you can ! My noise was very bad as described !
Any of you Kompressor guys notice any engine or exhaust noises. I am convinced my car is louder now than before but they can find anything wrong !
