2005 CLK55 Cab
mp3 cabability in 2005 COMMAND

To beat a dead horse, I search all over this board looking for instructions, tips, etc etc - and can't find any definitive answers or procedures for MP3 playback.
I have a 2005 clk55 amg, and my brother in law has a 2005 SL500 - both with COMMAND. It doesn't mean a whole lot, but we bought from the same dealership within about a week of each other. For all I know the AMG could have been sitting on the lot for a while.
He burns MP3 with Roxio to CD-R and puts it in the single CD slot. He also has the magazine ( like I do ). His car will play mp3 burned CD's ( with Roxio by selecting : create a MP3 Audio Cd. His car will play them in the single CD slot, but not in the magazine.
My car will not play in either the single CD slot or the magazine. I tried using Nero and Roxio. I probably wasted 10 CD's trying different methods. When I put it in the single slot, it just says: CD error.
My guess is that he has a later (newer ) firmware release than mine.
Any ideas?

I don't think all 2005 models have MP3 capability. I think the C and CLK do not. Most others do. You can check out the site below which has all the Command manuals on line to see what the differences are.

http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_manual.htm

By the way your friend can also use DVD's with MP3's in the center Command slot. That will give you 4.7 gig in songs. Just be sure to use the joliet file extensions and remember that the Command will only see a maximum of 255 songs per folder. Good luck!

mp3

I have a July 04 CLK. My unit cannot play mp3s. I noticed that you said the C and CLK comand cond not play mp3s. Is there a firmware update available to enable the comand to play mp3s?

I doubt there will be an update. My guess is that the C and CLK Commands are different (vendors) from the other models.

I can play mp3 Cd's in my C55 w/COMAND, I burn them with Roxio. However I did get an entire new unit in February 05 because of other issues with the original unit, that may make it unusual for a C class??.

not sure why the command units hardware would be different between the models - the firmware, yes I can understand that - but in either of our command manuals for 05 ( SL or CLK ) they don't mention mp3 cabability.
I'm sure if I ask my local dealer they will be clueless

...because the W211, W219 and R171 DVD comands are manufactured by Becker...the W215, W220 and R230 DVD comands are manufactured by Siemens and the W203, W209 and W164 DVD comands in the US are manufactured by alpine...

hey buddy, i would suggest if you have an ipod or mp3 player you can directly plug it in via a wire purchased in radio shack.....theres a small aux input in the glovebox (look at the right side youll see a hole) plug the wire into the mp3 player then on the comand press SVC->Aux and youre good to go!!

...not on the 2005 DVD comand...there is an AUX but not under SVC...that is only on the older CD rom based comands.
