Exclamation odometer/tripmeter discrepancies on my W209!

My car is currently 1 week old; the odometer always reads 1.5 miles LESS than the tripmeter...is this humanly possible?!? This is what the display looked like at delivery:

In this picture my odo/trip are 1.5 miles off. Doesn't the odometer show all the miles driven on the vehicle since birth? How could there be 69.5 miles on the trip meter if the car only had 68 miles since it was manufactured?

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated, it has been bugging me all weekend. Thanks in advance!

Unless you got the two switched, it should have been included in any closing paperwork. Isn't this the same one you got a good price on? Go back the the dealer IMMEDIATELY and get clarification.

I agree w/ ndabunka. Make sure you dont' mess around w/ the buttons and accidently clear the TripMeter. That will mess up everything. But I honestly doubt they changed the mileage or anything. Afterall, it's a Benzo dealership and they have a rep to keep.

I talked to my sales rep today and he said he did not know the answer but would find out for me. When I pick up my tags next week he will have a tech look at the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz of Princeton & my sales rep were totally professional throughout the entire process. They are a big time dealership in Jersey (Maybachs/SLR's/AMG 65's) and I do not think any fraud is involved. This was one of the main reasons I bought from them & not Ray Catena.

Personally, after looking at the entire picture, I think it is just a computer glitch that occured at the factory - but who knows. If it was 500+ miles off then I would be more concerned, 1.5 miles is nothing. Thanks to everyone who posted replies this far.

...it showed the car had 24 miles on it in Sept. 2004 and that was the only record. It also showed that the car had never been titled to anyone.

Yeah, I talked to the Master Technician at MB Princeton. He stated that when they back the car off the lift at the factory both meters are running and before they ship it they reset the odo, but they forgot to reset the trip. That is why it is 1.4 miles off always. I asked him if he made this up just for me but he swore it has happened before w/ AMG's. Anyway my warranty is good until 2009 and I got 21K off MSRP--can't beat that. BTW the car is awesome, I am still breaking it in though!

They reset the odometer? Why would they do that? And they backed it off the truck for 1.5 miles? Thats a pretty big truck!

Sounds fishy to me.

Does your car still have the new-car-smell? If so, I doubt it's a rebuilt salvage that wasn't reported. Also, try putting a magnet on the fenders and panels of the car. If it doesn't stick everywhere, then you have a problem. If it does stick everywhere then you're straight. But I honestly doubt there's gonna be a problem, esp. from a benz dealership. You may wanna try emailing some top officials at benz or AMG if you're still not sure. I can get you an email address of Rob, the AMG Manager, if you'd like.

Thank you all for your concern....but there is nothing wrong with the car. Yes, it still smells new. And yes, I have had numerous car experts fully inspect the vehicle and thay all say it is a brand new car w/ no accidents or paint.

BTW, the current trade on a 2004 CLK55 with zero miles on it is less than $50,000 so I probably could have gotten it cheaper. It did come from a MB dealer with a 45 month, 50,000 warranty so I am happy

Could be a lemon. You never do know that they probaly put 10K miles on it and reset the odometer. I would check into that. All they had to do is do a super detail. Thats it.

My car was ordered and I had been tracking it for awhile, it arrived two days before I picked it up so I am sure it wasn't a lemon. There was a good 43 miles on it though already from test drives is my guess as the 209 was stil fairly new when I got it.
