2002 CLK55 mpg...
Those numbers are from your computer, right?
On one occasion I kept the driving mph no more that 65 mph and
the best mpg I got was 23 mpg.
The only mod I have is a K&N filter....when in park though, there
is a little rough idleing detected...I'm wondering whether my car
needs tuning. I only have 35k on the odometer.
Anyone have any clues as to why my mpg is so low?
Any help will be appreciated.
still 5k miles until B service, but when it goes in for other minor warranty repairs to COMAND, phone cradle, and cupholder, i'll get the tune-up as well.
i found the trick to the mpg is consistent pressure on the pedal and not shooting up to cruise speeds (unless warranted ;-).
how are your tire pressures?
I took a trip to naples from ft. laud. and for the round trip of 240 miles
I averaged 20, I did some constant runs of 100 mph so, I guess that
is not a bad mpg to get.

last year, we did lauderdale to naples for one of the hurricane evacs. don't recall mpg -- guessing preoccupation was weather, not fuel economy -- but probably would've recalled distinctly if mpg was less than 20.
regarding your mpg, you included local travel while in naples?

perhaps my computer and/ or fuel tank sensing equipment isn't working properly. but the car's gone 400 miles with what seemed like distance to spare between fuel stops during long rides.
my hardware and software are vindicated.
have you experienced rought idle?
My car is stock, down to the original air filters. I had the car dynoed at the AMG Meet here in Atlanta back at the end of April and my 55 put down 290hp and 313tq at the wheels
Don't understand 'throwing any codes'.
Please explain.
I'm going to try and calculate the mpg the old fashion way.
Fill her up, log the mileage, drive, fill her up, log the #of gallons to fill her up
and divide the #of gallons into the miles driven.
I don't really believe the computer numbers...I think it's there as a guideline.
With the rough idle when in park, my mixture may be off.
Could the K&N contribute to it...meaning, it's allowing more air than the
stock filter, therefore causing the rough idle?
I'm going to need Service A in 1200 miles so I may ask the technician to check out the rough idle at time.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Btw, a strange thing happened to me the other day....I had the car in N and I just move the selecter to D with my foot off the brake and gas and I chirped the tires, it felt like it went into gear when the rpms were high....I tried to reproduce it and I could not. What could it be?

Your issue may be a bad MAF.
you mention error codes....were you referring to chirping of the tires when I put the selector into drive or the rough idling?
fortunately it has not happened but I doubt the problem fixed itself!!
regarding the varying mpg issue....i'm wondering if there is a way for us consumers can check if the fuel we are paying for is indeed the octane level we are paying for or whether the gas has been 'watered down'. you know some gas station owners could water down the gas to eek out more profits.
