Thumbs up Sold my CLK55!!!

I finally dumped the beast! I sold it privately and did well, the dealers were offering 45-46K which makes me puke on a car that retailed at 77K+. The biggest reason I dumped her was because of personal reasons but I also have some other minor ones after driving the car for 7 months:

PROS:
+ 362hp/376lbs-ft tq
+ beautiful, pillarless design
+ large 5.5L displacement
+ handles well
+ low 13's 1/4 mile

CONS:
- no Kompressor (huge issue for me...AMG treated the 209 like a *******)
- serious traction problems, excessive wheelspin, no LSD
- only 362hp/376lbs-ft tq (many cars today push 400+)
- navigation sucks the big one
- interior is sporty but dash looks cheap
- MB quality control lacking (CD changer/sunroof malfunctioning; door rattles)

I am now torn between the 6 series or SL class? I want to stay with MB but their quality worries me. I must have a droptop so the question is:
SL55, SL600 or 650i?

This board has been great & addictive. I will stay on for now, but maybe change my Handle if I get an SL.

Once you go AMG, you can't go back.

Get the SL55

wow....good to hear it worked out for you. I have a couple of questions for you:

1) what was the milage on your car?
2) what did you end up selling it for privately?
3) did you use e-bay or autotrader?
4) was yours a hard top or convert?

My car has 20K miles on it and my dealership would only give me $38K for it.
I thought long and hard about selling mine privately, but I am a bit nervous doing it. I tried Autotrader with no luck.
I just can't swallow getting $38K for this car. Its in too nice of shape. Oh well.....what can you do when you want the best!

Stay with mercedes man!

I'd say either the SL55 or SL600

If you must change to BMW (who appear to have better build quality) and you obviously can afford the SL55/600, why not go for the new M6. 500hp or go for a Porsche 911.

However, I'd go for the SL65 but not the CL now as that looks like it's going to change sooner rather than later and honestly.... who wants the 'old' version of a car.

M....

Forget about 650i, its no competetion for SL55 or SL600....
I would go for SL55, its an orgasmic car, once you will get it, you will not want anything else. If you need 4 seats, go for CL55.....

If you don't need a back seat, get the SL55 AMG. I still think the SL class is the most beautiful car Mercedes makes today. Beauty and the beast altogether in one!!

If you were to get the 650, would it be a 6 speed manual? That is one thing that really appeals to me, the fact that BMW offers a stick shift in such cars.
The SL55 is a gorgeous car and a beast. Can be a hard top or convertible. Only downside (well depends onthe buyer) is that it only has 2 seats.
The 650 i think is actually pretty good looking (others may disagree), specially compared to the rest of the "bangled" BMW's. It comes with a 6speed which is a big plus for me, depends on what you want though. Also has four seats which once again depends on what you need. Bmw's also have great handling and steering precision. On a straight away though AMG's are just beasts.
I'm not a big fan of the CL55, I'd rather get a CLS with 4 doors. Also I believe the handling isn't that great on it in comparisong to the SL and the 6.
I have never driven any of these cars, so my recommendations are mainly through my own opinion and research. Good luck on your choice, you can't go wrong with any of these cars.

wait for the M6.... that car is gonna be a BEAST
in terms of a coupe... I have a W208-430 and next to the 6 series... I feel like i am sitting in a c-class coupe.... thats not cool

The body of the 6 IMO has just a very BIG presence to it... Just big body car with a big boy feel.

I've riden in an M6 a few days ago. Its almost as fast as Gallardo (it was our second test car). Gallardo is still faster on a straight line, but M6 comes pretty close though...
Look, M6 is incredibly fast, more likely faster than ANY road cars you will see. Its a real beast and it can keep up with an SLR McLaren which is a rocket. But an interior is way too bad. I dont like its design at all and I didnt like the materials BMW used....it just sucks for me. M6 looks "normal" to me. SL55 doesnt...
SL55 all the way.

He says he wants a "Drop Top". The CL55 is not a convert so it does not sound like it is an option. The newer 6's are nice and the 05's are "a steal" compared to the M6 ($60K vs. 95K)
