Happy Newbie Owner with a couple of questions

Hi,
yesterday i bought a 2000 CLK 55 AMG, Silver with the grey and black interior. No Command but looks like new :-)

I had been looking for a new car for a couple of months and was close to buying an M5, then an S6, Now i'm oh so happy i went for the AMG -I love it!

But a few questions for starters if anyone can help...

1) On the front parking sensor dsiplays, what is the difference between the one on the drivers side and the middle one? is this side and center of bumber?

2) My Climate unit is playing up a bit, works ok for air and heat but it seems to blow- high fan, low fan, middle- swopping itself all the time, as if the sensor can't make it's mind up what to do- anyone any ideas, is it a common fault? it also squeaks a bit from behind the unit, almost like a loose fan or something?

3) does anyone know if there are audio inputs on the back of the stereo so i could imput a feed for my MP3 player, i forget the model but i thinnk it is the 30, the one with the phone dial pad and flip down tape deck behiind lcd display.

4) finally is this forum mostly USA , or any more UK members on here?

Thanks Guys !

Hi Welcome!

I will touch on the Climate question and leave the other two to someone else. When the car is cold the fans will not kick in right away if you have the setting to a normal to high temp. This is because the engine is not hot enough to produce the correct temperature needed. Then when it gets hot the system will try to get to the desired temperature as quickly as possible thus blowing the fans at full speed. Once the temperature of the cabin is reached it will adjust by itself. The climate control is great for long trips and you will have to find the right setting to best suit your comfort level. For everyday driving in the winter however you may want to set it at HIGH and adjust the fans manually. If it's really cold outside you want heat ASAP and whatever comes out of the fan system will surely be warmer than outside. I live in Boston where temps can reach well into the -F so I don't have time to let the engine reach the ideal temp for the automatic climate control to kick in.

You have chosen a really special car. The more time you spend in it, the happier you will be about your choice. Enjoy!

Learso.

Congrats and welcome

1. USA models did not come with Parktronic as an option.
2. Learso's answer seems to be most appropriate, based on your description.
3. Contact mbenznl (search his name) and he can answer that for you.
4. Mostly U.S., but we enjoy members worldwide.

The 2 sensors split up the front. In my CL (left side drive) the left display is for the front center to front left of the vehicle. The center display is for the front center to front right side.

thanks, all, i was working from home today but had to find reasons to nip into town just so i could drive her !
On the climate- no it's definately a problem with the unit or sensor,i've had climate for years and understand how it works (but thanks anyway) but this is erratic up and down and squeaking all the time.
Just figured if i roll up to MB delaer with it they'll tell me to replace the whole unit or something stupid like that.
so was looking for pointers.

thanks guys.

Thank god for that post, my heart stopped for a moment reading the one before.
It certainly says CLK 55 AMG on the log book. It said that when i ran a HPI check on it, it goes like the wind and has a huge AMG logo on the cover of the engine.

Don't scare me like that

Simbad,

Now that I think about it, I too had an issue with the climate control going wacky about 2 years ago. It's the sensor for sure, get it checked out. Same thing you discribed.
