Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 P255/35/R18
Man do those baby's hook up!!
I just put them on the rear, and will follow on the front in about another 4 months or so as the previous owner's Potenzas give up....
$300/tire, but they are quieter, and wow, accceleration......

I'm traveling this week, but should be back to my baby around Thursday or Friday.
I was sold on these tires after reading 10-15 reviews from owners of sports cars who had posted on tirerack.com. It seemed they blew away everything from Pirrelli, Falken, Bridgestone, etc....
They were just installed last week, and they are worth every cent.
I want to get a second set of wheels and put the Pilot Sport Cups on them for track tires for the CLK55. They wear like iron and hold tremendous grip.
If I remember correctly the continentals are best know as a "high mileage" road tire?
I didn't much care for the name but, they are brand new. They seem so/so as far as performance. Ride nice (smooth) over pavment, not too noisy. The rear seem to hook-up pretty well. Even if you let off the throttle mid cornor they don't seem to slide too much as they get light / they're predictable / but, I do notice a bad "push" to the front. As you start to get back on it coming out of a curve if you push it too hard they feel like they will "go away" pretty easily. And that's just on the street.
I'm going to take it through "Ortega" tomorrow (just for kicks) for the first time since I've owned the car. If you really want to know what they're like I'm sure I'll have a real definite opinion tomorrow.
Conclusion: The CLK55 is definitly limited by the tires with the "conti's" on it.
I plan to replace the stock 17's with some 18's and consider the Michelin my first choice based on what I've read about them.
Even on other makes of new cars I have them do the same thing. But then I'm a tire fanatic: I think that it is one of the major factors in a car's ride, handling, performance, braking, safety -- the whole works....
If you change wheels it is alot easier to chuck the OEM's - that's for sure.
Alot of guys just wait until they're worn out before switching...but it's still the same major diference.
I'd say the PS2's, or try the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's (alot of guys are liking the GSD3's).
