Hi Chappy,

I can get to the electronic speed limit on a couple of back roads here...the only thing missing is an official time....

Haven't been there yet; but I do have a folder on them as I have more than a few cars in the States that I'd like to have that kind of length to do the 0-100-0 test and flying mile at, for example.
I always wonder what the pavement's like.....

Not as smooth as say, a certain stretch of highway in South Georgia where a certain somebody squeezed out (a reported) top speed of 190mph.

In all honesty, not worrying about cops and for the safety of myself and the general public, is why I'd rather attend an organized meet....whether at this airstrip, the drags or a track. I haven't had a moving violation in 21 years.

Yup. Same here. The controlled - and legal - environment would give me the chance to do and put down numbers on a half-dozen cars in a day though -- and that's very appealing. I'm going to check out a few places at some point in the future.... Then I'll probably decide to pick one and arrange the logistics of picking a day (weather...) and transporting a couple of truckloads of cars there for a go....

Just a note of trivia. It seems to me that Maxton was an active field when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg in the 70's. I never flew there, but I had heard of it at that time. My father was a pilot during WWII at Pope Field (now Pope AFB, co-located with Ft. Bragg) and flew in and out of Maxton often.

There is also a converted air field in south TX. I believe it is in Gonzales. We will go there if you want when you stop by for a visit.

Bridgestone/Firestone Proving Grounds in Texas. If you rent the place, I'll cater the BBQ!

Sounds like I just might have to take a little recon mission out there to TX --

('corse I am not implying or saying that I would, or am, of course, for international security purposes.... and I do hear that they've got some incredible automotive databases run by the CIA or NSA or the BFN or BET, and that they're the BFD or something like that out there in them parts; hidden in batcaves or guano mining operations or something; and that they're manned by 158 year old pointy-eared Texas Rangers or Secret Service or Treasury agents that used to be military or airforce or special forces or something; and that they are very serious dudes - like the MIB - so I'd have to be careful)

I certainly would appreciate your covering my a$$et$, so to speak, Sheriff Billy Bob....

And Chappy. that is a mighty tasty proposition that you've thrown down on the bar as well....

May just have to come to TX, fellers, and take a look-see with y'all....

If you're doing the BBQ, I'd like to - I just hired this guy, and sure-as-heck don't want to have to share my BBQ with him!

(but Rule Number One of having a security detail? You never leave them at home.... So I hope you're up to doing up alot of BBQ, Chappy! LOL)

Exactly! I've seen these guys drill at their training center a few times -- six Jack Bauers drawing down on you is a very scary thought...kind of like an upper-level in Doom....

Chappy, can drive - any web links for info on these places?
