Question CLK 430/55 AMG Buying advise please?

Hi guys,am new to the MB forum so please bare with me!! am looking into buying a CLK but not sure exactly what to go for?! Have always has S-Line Audi's and 911's(up until a 92 964).Have got about £17k to play with and just after any advise really! Have driven a 430 some time ago and was really impressed although Im led to believe the 55's the Bad boy of the bunch!! Will be planning the usuals like 19's, suspension, ECU's etc..Is the 55 really worth the extra? Any advise apprciated guys...

Not sure you could find a 55 in that range.....if you can stretch, go for it!

edit: 17K pounds is about $30,000 US, at the moment. It still may be difficult to locate a "good" car at that price.

Best of luck in your decision.

Hold out for the 55. When i was looking I let my anticipation get the better of me and, well..I wish I would have waited and bought a 55. Trust me once you get one, you are gonna start looking for go fast parts...might as well start with a good, fast car.

wait a bit

Wait til the CLK63 comes out ... its not a long wait.

At that time the CLK55 price is gonna drop significantly.

1. Buy a used CLK55.
2. Have it kleemannized
3. Results...you'll still be faster when the CLK63 comes out!

Even with the "stock" AMG it is better than a 430 with ECU, etc....and much more cost effective, as the AMG'sare going for just a few thousand $ more than the same model 430...

This is a no-brainer...

The performance maniac in me says go with the AMG 55. Actually, I was looking at one when searching for a car. But after I drove the SL, I fell in love with it. CLK55 is an absolutely great car. (I didn't go with it because I loved the tanklike feel of the R129 and the fact it had a V12. That, and finding one in perfect condition with very low miles and ridiculous price...I had to take it. ) I am liking the idea of Kleemannizing it. Forgive me if my figures are off, but I believe the AMG 5.4 Litre should handle a little over 500-505 kompressor horsepower, with just the supercharger. With Kleemann internals...I believe around 600 hp.

Best of Luck.

I went out for a test drive in a 430 with the intention of buying one. They had a 55 on the same lot so, I drove it as well. BIG difference! It took me three more months to find the right 55 but, it was worth it. Love my 55!!!
