Lowered Cars - Excessive tire wear?
I've been asked recently about any tires issues and wear with my current setup. I thought a new thread about this would provide some public feedback and get others to chime in about tire wear issues with their own lowered CLKs. For the benefit of others, please provide specifics on your suspension setup, tires, wheels or other details (like accident damage) that might affect your results.
Car: 2002 CLK55
Tires: Michelin PS2 (225/45-17, front); (245/40-17, rear) - stock size
Wheels: Stock AMG Monoblock II
Suspension: Stock AMG dampers with euro-spec springs
Springs pads: 2 bump front, 1 bump rear
Properly aligned and balanced
No accident damage or bent wheels.
I do check tire pressure often and keep them around 35psi. I put on the PS2s about 15 months ago at 16K miles and currently have just under 24K miles on the setup, so about 8K miles total.
I can report that there have been no unusal tire wear issues and am getting even wear across the rear tires, as I did with the stock setup and original Michelin Pilot Sports. I hope to get an additional 8-10K miles out of this set before having to replace them. The tires have never rubbed.
What are your results?

I had a very aggressive alignment on my WRX with coil overs and -4 degrees of camber. Lowered 2" +. Handled realy well too!
The negative camber is not so much of an issue as the toe. With proper alignment and 0 toe you should not have excessive inner tire wear.

Car: 2002 CLK 430
Tires: Goodyear Eagle F-1 (235/40-18, front); (255/35-11, rear) - 18" Staggered set-up.
Wheels: 18" AMG Monoblock Aero II
Suspension: Stock OEM dampers with BRABUS springs
Springs pads: 2 bump front, 1 bump rear
Alignment: Properly aligned and balanced
Notes: No accident damage or bent wheels
I believe that proper alignment and tyre pressure are critical. I bought this set up and have driven 17,000 miles on it. The Goodyears are exceptional in their wear life, comfort, wet-handling and low noise.
I keep 36 PSI all the way around.

Wheels: HRE 540R's Staggered
Suspension: Kleemann Speed Sensitive Shocks & Kleemann Springs
Springs pads: # 1 pad all around
Properly aligned and balanced

Don't remember my psi but i think they're 30's front and higher 30's rear. Running on regular air but thinking about switching to nitrogen filled? Well see.
Note: The only tire wear i get is when my gas foot gets happy. LOL

Does anyone know where I can get my '02 CLK55 lowered in the Southern Cal / Orange county area? I'm putting 19" wheels on next week. Still not decided which ones but, I'll post up some picks when I get it done.

I too would like to get my car lowered, new wheels 18in or 19in still yet too be decided. I am thinking of black centers since the car is briliant silver any one seen this combination?
Walnut seams a bit far from San Diego County ,though, it would give me an excuse to drive fast and see if I can avoid a speeding ticket.
I would expect that there should be a good shop in Orange county.
Thanks for any Info

On my 2002 CLK55 AMG, I was using the stock AMG Bilstein dampers with H&R springs. As well, I had #2 pads in the front with #1 pads in the rear. I was using 18" AMG Monoblock rims... 18*8 fronts with 18*9 rears... running Goodyear Eagle GSD3's... 225/40ZR18 fronts with 255/35ZR18 rears. No accidents, nothing. Oh yeah, and 10mm spacers in the rear too
Tire wear was pretty good... pretty even wear... no complaints here on that set up

The dealership is a cheap way to have the car lowered. I think I was quoted 400 dollars for the Star Diagnostics
