Should i get a 02 clk55 now?

hi, my situation-
i just traded in my 00' clk430 for a 02' slk 32 amg 2 months ago, but i still like the design of the clk, the reason that i didnt get 02 clk55 was i thought the w209 is going to replace w208, so i got a slk32 instead of clk55. these days, i have been thinking to trade in 32 for clk 55, but is now still a right time to get one? or i should wait for w209 clk55 or w211 e55, because i only wanna have it until May 03', so what should i do? keep slk32? or get clk55?
thanks

It is...

Decision wise, I was in the same boat a couple months ago. "Do I wait for the W209, get a C32, get an SLK32, a used SL500, E55??".....tons of choices.

I tossed out the SL, because I wanted an AMG car. I decided on a V8 over a supercharged V6 for varying reasons...(the V8 has been proven in the E55 since 1999, V8 rumble, etc.).

I ended up with a 2002 CLK55. I think the lines are beautiful and you can't argue about the power and other features. I didn't care for the lines of the W209 as much, though I am an MB nut and the new styling will probably "grow" on me as time passes (I disliked the interior, though...too many 'oval' themes...like the old generation Ford Taurus). Plus, the extra wait and you bet the dealers won't be discounting any "new" models.

Ultimately, buy what makes you happy!

There are probably few 2002 CLK55 coupes left as they ceased production in January. If you want one, get it now. The dealers are discounting these also, so you would likely get a good price. I live in a large MB market (Atlanta), and I still had to ship my car in from 2 states away.....don't wait if you decide you want an '02.

Hope this helps

All of them, as much as I can...
Go for the CLK55!

I'll chime in with a yea as well. I don't think you'll see the '03CLK55AMG until late next year. The '03CLK500, which will probably hit the showrooms in late Sept'02, does not excite me. If you can find the '02CLK55AMG cabriolet, that might be a good investment as well. Although some 900 were shipped to the US, I believe there were only 525 sold in the US and they've mothballed production (I'm trying to research these numbers). The 208 is a beautifully executed design. It stands out amongst the other models in the MB line. In fact, at a recent MBCA concourse event hosted by the Sea Level chapter, the CLK55AMGcab won most popular car (as judged by all competitors). I was parked between a SLK32AMG and a new Designo SL500! Best of show of course, was a red '55 300SL gullwing.
From late Oct'01 until Jan'02, my dealer was getting 20Gs over list for this car (around $100K). I lucked out and got the last one in Mar'02 when they "gave it away" at list when they started getting their allocation for new SLs and in anticipation of the new CLKs. Then they called me in mid-June offering to take back the car for what I paid! never heard that one before. I declined. If you can still find one of the remaining US allocation, it's a no-brainer.

thank u all
i think i will keep slk32 for now, and wait to see when the w209 comes, but since Mercedes UK web has a bit info about w211 e55 (its posted that e55 is coming in late of 02') therefore i may just hold my breath for a bit longer, W208 CLK is still my favorite MB car, even i had two of them in pass, but still miss it..just miss it..

keep the SLK32 for now and wait for the W209 CLK55 AMG. although it won't have the s/c V8 from the SL55 but it will have a more powerful 5.5 V8 that outputs 360 some horsepower and even more torque than the current one.

in my mind the W208 CLK is very classy, but the W209 just take it into another level. from the outside the W209 looks much more agressive and powerful. inside is not something you want to cheer about though. the C/SL/E interior mix still bothers me a bit.

if the W208 is the child in the family who plays classic music then the W209 is the child in the family that plays the classic as well as the rock n' roll

Get the CLK55 Now!!

Don't wait for the 03 CLK55 model W209. Here's one of our moderators impression once he saw the newest W209 CLK version.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=14560

Uses a lot of plastic inside the car
Over priced
Interior looks like an Acura??

IMO the W208 is still the best CLK designed!

I disagree. I think the W209 is more classy looking but definitely not as aggressive in styling. The W208 appealed to me precisely because it looked like a German muscle car. The W209 is more consistent with Mercedes current styling trends, which, IMO, caters to a more conservative consumer. I'm pretty uninspired by the new crop of Mercedes except the SL55.

Well put. 209 is a MB blend, undistinguished.

How about the beastly SL55 AMG. That car is one mean machine. Although I think you should go for the CLK55 AMG. I was thinking about the C32 AMG, but the fact that the CLK was a V8, theres nothing like a sound of a V8 Engine. And the torque it gives, its amazing. Comparing the SLK32 and CLK55, stat wise theres not much difference. I'd get the CLK for the distinct looks and style of it and it's a more practical car other than the SLK, i find it extremely small. So I'd say go back with the CLK, then see how you like the new 209, or the new E55. But all in all, I think you should wait out until the SL55 AMG, I think I am obsessed with that car.

he need some rich blood to get a 130k + SL55 AMG. as for the look of the CLK, they all looks the same with the AMG bodykit on. the V8 does sound somewhat better, but i just love the sound that the supercharger makes on my C32.

Yeah true, I'd honestly rather spend $130k+ on a Porsche 911 Turbo, and still have a lot of money left over to buy a beater car for everyday. But the SL55 AMG would definitely be my top pick AMG Benz.

for 130k + i definitely would get the 996 Turbo auto. if i have 260k+ money i would get both.

btw the current issue or the last issue of the Motor Trend features Mario Andretti testing four of the world's super car. the BMW Z8, the Ferrari 360 spyder, Aston Martin DB7 vantage V12 convertible, and the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. the SL55 was the top pick by the legendary driver because it can be a open top roadster and a coupe, and the power that even surpass the Ferrari.
