Hello, just got my CLK 55 and need tire tips.

Hi,

Just got my 03 clk55 and I wanted to put new tires since they are worn. I'm thinking Yok AD07's or go all season pilot sports. Do you guys recommend 255 on back? What tires are prefered for this car.

Also I have no idea what the lever on the right side of the steering wheel does. It looks like a cruise control lever but on the right. Could some advise me.

Thanks.

It sounds like the voice-recognition (aka: Linguatronic) option. On the stalk there's probably a microphone logo...

This allows you to teach voice commands (there's a learn operation to go through) and allow you to pick up the phone, recall phone numbers by voice, end calls and possibly Comand system functions, if your car was equipped with that system.

I don't have that option (plus mine's the W208 series - you have the W209) so I can't describe how to program that feature.

$43K at 30K miles. I probably could of had much better deal if it wasn't for the trade in on my 05 evo MR

They are 17". I wasn't sure either because the style is so similar to the 18" on the newer models.

Aww Man. I couldn't sell my car for $43K on autotrader to save my life. And my car had only 22K miles then. It now has 23K miles. Was that the asking price of the dealership? With 30K miles, that car should've gone for $38K
Congrats on the car. Either way you got a nice ride man. We can answer any questions you have.

Yeah, its retail. They took my trade in at the private car value on edmunds so it's above trade in value. Basically negotiated the difference.

I'll second this. I just had the PS-2's installed on my 05 CLK 500 and the 235 front, 255 rear would have looked better. I'll do that size next time. I have the 225/45/17 front, 245/40/17 rear.

My car has a little under 23K miles. What do you think I should sell it for.
I'm not really in any rush to dump this car just yet. I'm waiting to see how the CLS63 turns out. I still haven't given up on my dream of getting a CLS.
If you think $44 to $43K is good then feel free to PM me.

If you are looking for summer tires only, I can recommend the PS2.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 - (Max Performance Summer) Rated the best in Car & Driver. I haven't used them but they seem as good or better than the PS2. Luke at Tirerack.com also likes the tires. You may want to speak with him also on which one is best. Remember these are not tires for winter weather.

I'm really considering extreme tires such as the advan AD07's since i'm familiar with the yoks and their semi racing tires. The problem is.

1. Which amg wheel I should buy for winter or use my current rims?
2. Should i buy the 18" double spoke wheel since i like them with the 18" PS2 for summer.
3. Or go with pilot sport A/S and be done with it and auto X the NSX or buy another car for that instead.

For auto X ppl why C55 is in F-Stock and CLK55 in A-Stock. Isn't the CLK and C55 about the same performance in terms of handling or does one have a better LSD on back?

1. That's a personal choice
2. If you like them, get a set of those with PS2s for summer
3. Didn't realize you had other cars to use for autocross. The CLK55 is a heavy car....I would not put pilot sport a/s on for track use.

If you decide to use the CLK for track duty and daily driving, I would purchase a second set of wheels and use those for autocross and winter use. Mount some summer max tires for the rest of the year.

As to why the W203 C55 is in a different class, I have no clue. Just realize that the C55 as well as the CLK55 do not have LSD.

Good luck in your decision.

Wow, that is horrible. Perhaps I'll think twice about Auto Xing this car. The torque will probably rip the tires apart with one wheel peel in a turn with understeer

I aways thought AMG as performance and how could it perform without a LSD? Oh, well.

yeah, no lsd
its a performance car, but its not a sports car.
autocross will cost u lots of $, these cars r too heavy, brakes and tyres get destroyed.
understeer builds too much heat into the outer front shoulders and they quickly give up leading to more understeer and crazy tire wear

Thanks for your tip. You just talk me into not auto X and getting some all season tires. Now should i go 255/40's or 245/40. Anyone tried both? Any speedo error by going 255's?

Thanks in advance.

i see that u live in michigan. if u plan to drive it in the winter, u MUST get winter tires, not all season.

i would use the stock 17s w/ winter tires and get another set of wheels and performance tires.

IMHO, if u're going to buy another set of wheels and tires, get 19s instead of 18s, it doesn't cost much more and the car will look much hotter.
