They sure look like the wheels from the SLK55 (R171), AMG style V 18" 7.5/9.5. My guess is that the CLK63 safety car is sporting a larger, wider, forged version of them since you can clearly see 19" on the sidewalls of those tires and the widebody surely needs wider than 7.5/8.5 wheels.

I thought they might be 20" and at least 275 at the rear. How do you know these are Forged?

I read about it in a press release where it said the CLK63 safety car will be sporting forged 19" wheels. I can clearly see those are 19" on the sidewalls in those pics, so unless the car will have different wheels on the track, I figured those were the forged wheels mentioned.

good man !

I am seriously deciding my next rims it will be either doube arms star style or a multi-spoke style. i.e. rims with lots of sophisticated details in it. Having the AMG Style III as the Brilliant Silver body paint rims was a big failure. Because the rims and the body paint color are very close and hardly be any contrast. The only time I see the 'contrast' is when the rims are dirty and the car body is clean. e.g. on a rainy day, the car body is clean and the rims are damn dirty. This is truely ugly. I did not find this issue when my car was with the stock AMG rims because they are actually 'mercury color' which makes a good contrast as well as keep the dirt less obvious. Thus, I have concluded that the rims color for Brilliant Silver has got to be very shiny ( but not as shiny as mirror chrome) or the chrome has to be mercury color which is a mix of silver, grey and black.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupé
Thanks for posting these pics of the 63 CLK Safety Car. It looks like the close-up photos were taken at the Geneva show. I was disapointed this car was not on display the day I visited.

Although it doesn't look like it from the publicity shot, the rim size might vary between the front and rear axle. The CLK DTM has a 19inch front and 20s out back. I would like to see what a 17/18 or 18/19 set up would look like on a 55 CLK. Anyone got pics of this?

Whatever be the rim size, the key mod here is the new fenders allowing a serious widening of the track. That should produce BIG benefits in the handling department. While the new look does not flatter the car, at least it's more restrained than the DTM approach.

How many among us would be interested in purchasing the wide track mod, knowing that it won't come cheap ?

These are the SLK55 wheels that come with car. They are the V style ones without the extra spokes (like on the sl55)

I just bought 18's off a slk55 forum member.

The wheels should be in within 2 weeks. I will post pics once I have them installed.

They're definitely not the same exact wheels as on the SLK55, but they are the same style. SLK55 wheels are smaller, thinnner, and cast, rather than forged.

Can't wait to see your car with the SLK55 wheels man.

Yes you are correct, they are not the exact same wheels...probabaly not even remotely close if you study them.

But from a distance they will look familiar I believe. I will post pics as soon as I get them. I am going on VK for awhile, when I get back the wheels should be on.

post some pics of your new wheels on your car blake in this thread. I think these boys would like them a lot.

I think those SLK55 wheels will look great on your car, but I'm glad my deal ended up falling through and I was able to get these for a couple hundred more...

You really got a deal on those...they look awesome too. Great contrast.

Do you plan on doing any other mods?

I'll never stop modding. Performance mods are next...headers, maybe pulley, ECU tuning, sway bars. Also looking into a custom CF front bumper lip, CF grille, black roof, redo my trunk setup with some fiberglass, two-tone interior...that's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.

Cast = Liquid poured into a mold
Forged = Carved out of Chunks of metal

I THINK?

I don't know if you have the forged part right. Forging is a process that makes the metal stronger, so you are able to use less material to make a stronger, lighter wheel. I don't know all the specifics though...try google.

To form (metal, for example) by heating in a forge and beating or hammering into shape

So maybe its stamped out of one peice of metal?

in casting there might be holes in the metal which reduces the strenght of the materail. on the contrary with forging, you fill these holes with the metals itself. so it endure more against forces.

Ah, that explains why it was worth paying more for my forged golf clubs.

What with all the times I beat the ground rather than the ball, those clubs must endure a lot more forces!

MD Superstrong irons, in gun metal finish. They were recommended by my pro.

Terrific clubs. Low offset yet easy to play. Not even that expensive. The're made in the UK.
