Are you more courteous to MB drivers

Long time ago I read an article about how porsche drives use to say hello to each other by beeping their horn on the road. It is same for motorcyclists (sports vs sports, chopper vs chopper ).

I have this innate feeling to be more courteous to MB drives I noticed some other drivers do the same thing. Such as you are trying to turn in to a busy road sometimes an MB driver slows down and lets you in to flowing traffic etc.

Any experiences?

things with and without wheels
In NY NJ area is it very rare to witness courtesy no matter what you are driving,as a matter of fact if youre driving a Benz or something along Benz kind ,others seem to drive more aggresivelly knowing that you will back down because you care or you are more responsible individual.
I prefer idiots behind me or far away from me then in front or next to me.
I wonder if coutesy is mentioned in driver's education?

I think that pretty much describes driving in Boston... that's why I take the jeep when I go out to the city.

Before my wife and I were married she had a 99 civic, people tailgate the crap out of it! But the Benz gets tailgated seldom, and usually only by really sharp, late model Asian cars driven by males 28-30ish. My full size pickup almost never gets tailgated. As far as courtiousness, no respect. People are angry, selfish, and act entirely different behind the wheel than they would face to face. And I'm in a small oregon town, i'd go nuts in a place like NY, NJ, or LA. It's dangerous out there folks, so much for comradory. The bikers got it though, and it doesnt matter what kinda bike you ride. When's the last time you saw a biker road rage?

I used to drive in Europe so driving in Boston seems like a walk in the park. I dont like driving NYC because of the cab drivers especially.

I am a pretty agressive driver myself but my moto is to drive aggresive without making other drivers adjust (like having to break or move out of the way)

..exactly, that is somthing to appreciate. driving so as not to cause other drivers to have to adjust. thats how I drive, but I find most other drivers could care less. Driving in Boston is worse than driving in Europe!? I would have thought just the opposite.

I meant driving in Boston is sooo much easier than europe. I have driven in different places but worse were Milano, Italy and Istanbul, Turkey so after all that I can drive my eyes closed in Boston :-) except the pot holes.

I think Pot holes are good, it keeps you alert , it like driving slalom course. I know one they I will get pulled over by a cop who thinks I am drunk driving going left and right in the lane.

The Porsche forum I'm in has this cool campaign called "Keep the flash alive".....Porsche drivers used to flash their lights at each other, and perhaps honk the horn as well, in recognition of being part of an exclusive family of race tuned sports cars, which I think is awesome.

I think MB drivers should do that as well.........except there are far more MB's than Porsche's, which I think would somewhat defeat the purpose, come to think of it....(imagine flashing/honking at every MB you see everyday; I see about 20 MB's a day, versus 2 Porsche's a day, lol)

But here in Dallas, I do see that MB and Audi owners have more respect for each other than the Japanese, American, etc owners. More MB and Audi owners let me a busy road than anyone else, and it's a good feeling when we both wave and smile at each other for the courtesy extended. BMW owners, uh.........I dunno why but they seem to be arrogant in Dallas.

The greatest thing I've noticed though........is that MB owners tend to park next to each other, which is pretty cool, lol...........

well, yeah I tend to park next to MB owners, but why would you park next to anything else in the parking lot?

I too tend to park next to other Benzes. I know they won't ding my doors, they're usually way out in the parking lot where I park anyway, and it's a way for me to say to them, "hey, I noticed your car=)" should they come out before me. It always makes me feel good when I come out of a store or somthing, and someone else has left their immaculate Benz right next to mine.

So shallow and untrue.

Sometimes accidents happen. I returned to my car to see a BMW on one side and a jag on the other. I open my door, and the wind caught it (really gusty that day...Chicago winds!) and I dinged the BMW. I pull out, and notice it was a BMW550i! Doh'!

Anyways, my policy on the road is that if the other person's car is better than mine, I let them turn or something. If not...too bad.

..did you fess up? Sounds like you did'nt....was their car nicer than yours? sounds like it might have been...and if it was, and you did'nt, why would you bother letting them turn or somthing, if you would'nt let them know you just banged up their car? I assuming of course.

The parking lot thing is funny. I do the same thing. If I see another Benz I make it a point to park next to it. Strange huh? As far as on the road. I tend to give some thumbs up from time to time. Other Benz drivers I see return the thumb as well. It feels good.

Seems like we all have similar parking habits. I always park way out of the way so nobody parks next to me. Usually next to couple other nice cars furthest from the door etc.

So hear this, the other day I am in Burlington Mall (MA) I park to the furthest corner where there is end spot big enough to put 1.5 cars in, it is raining a bit. Drop my lady of the door, park to my "usual" spot.

Couple hours later I come out, still raining abit.. walk to my car and what do I see?? Right next to it there is a yellow VW bug, with one of those yellow daisies in the dashboard cup (only car comes with a vase ). The closest car to our little cousy spot is 50 yards.

What a nerve ;-P

I used to own a Vette and Corvette drivers usually give each other a 4 fingures wave when pass. Good feeling cause your looking out for each other. One time my vette over heated at I-15 heading to Vegas and another Vette owner stopped and helped me. That was awesome. I noticed that Benz owner are very snobished some time.

You have a lesser chance of getting dinged up by someone elses door, if you tend to park next to higher class cars, you see benz everywhere you go, just like BMW... Which has a higher chance of getting dinged? Parking next to some riced out civics, and integras, or parking nice to some BMW's and Benz's, Lexus?

I'd watch out for the ML's and the E320 wagons though. I almost died when one parked next to me and the kids in the back seat kicked their doors open (literally).

I drove around memorial day in the CLK55 and thought it would be fun to wave to every benz I saw. No one waved back. Finally my girl told me to stop......it was embarrassing her.
Oh well. People must have thought I was crazy!

When I had my old Blazer, someone dinged my door real hard...while I was sitting in the car!!! It was a fat spanish lady who couldn't speak English..I got out of the car and was like are you F'in serious she was like lo siento lo siento...I almost wanted to get her information I was pissed, except my car Blazer was goin down the drain anyways so I didnt care.

I drive in Boston a lot. I know for a fact it is tough, but when you get used to it, and you adapt to it, it becomes easy, you become a lot better than the majority of people.....With my C240, no matter where I drive I tend to drive a lot slower and just enjoy the ride...even if people are behind me I'll move over to the right, unless of course I'm in a rush. I haven't had to many experiences with other MB owners...I'm definitely trying my best to park far away from other cars. If a spot is to close I wont pull in.

I only notice that most people try to speed up and not let me in when I try to merge, cut me off, etc when I drive the benz. Sometimes a fellow enthusiastic car owner would let me in and wave (Audi RS6s come to mind, some SL55).

Funny thing is - when I drive my Jeep (leaky exhaust, rust everywhere, trims falling off), nobody dares cut me off or even drive close to it (except for G35s - they have the nerve of steel)

Other Benz`s and being more courteous.

I too notice I park out of the way next to a Benz
If I see one in a parking lot.

Back in October we went to an Airshow.
Line of cars like a mile long. My son pulls the CL up to
another Benz and lets us cut in.

Now as far as AMG`s. I do notice we will tend to acknowledge
each other with a thumb or a smile. Fellow SL55`s tend to
take this to another level and we chat at the next light.

I do not miss driving back east. You guys in Boston and Philly
are insane. Its bad here in Cali up towards LA. But down here in
the OC its only the Asian ricers and the young M3 nuts that
will tailgate you in your Benz.
