I drove the M5 as well and liked it but I've been driving sportscars for a long time and just couldn't buy that big sedan. I absolutely love the 6 series but had a hard time justifying spending the money for a car I'll put 25,000 miles a year on.
So I settled for a used certified CLK55 AMG with 17,000 miles on it
I'm not really beating myself up over the decission.Wow... I was planning to buy something from him during last May, 2006. Lucky for me because I was too busy planning my wedding and honeymoon which it delayed me, phew...
How much money did he ran away with???

Yea i see the guy in the M3 not even trying.. I walk away from C5 corvette's on the highway no problem. I am bone stock. Driving is everything with M cars. Alot of people are scared to rev the engines to its peak power. They really are drivers cars.
Nope OC california.. I walked a c5 from 3rd gear all the way up to 140mph. As soon as i clicked 4th gear I was half car ahead. before i clicked 5th at 8,000rpm I had 2 full cars on him.

Sport Auto's test of C5 four speed auto, 1/03:
0 - 80 km/h 3,9 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,7 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,5 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 9,6 s
0 - 160 km/h 12,6 s
0 - 180 km/h 16,2 s
0 - 200 km/h 19,5 s
Sport Auto's test of C5 six speed manual, 9/2003:
0 - 80 km/h 3,7 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,2 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,1 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 9,0 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,3 s
0 - 180 km/h 14,5 s
0 - 200 km/h 17,9 s
The six-speed is pretty comparable to the M3 (this and the next one are six speeds; couldn't find an SMG test):
Sport Auto's test of M3 six speed manual, 12/2002:
0 - 80 km/h 4,0 s
0 - 100 km/h 5,2 s
0 - 120 km/h 7,1 s
0 - 140 km/h 9,0 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,6 s
0 - 180 km/h 14,8 s
0 - 200 km/h 18,6 s
Here's another which is a bit faster, but still not enough to walk a six speed in the way you're describing:
Sport Auto's test of M3 six speed manual , 1/2005:
0 - 80 km/h 3,5 s
0 - 100 km/h 4,8 s
0 - 120 km/h 6,6 s
0 - 130 km/h - s
0 - 140 km/h 8,6 s
0 - 160 km/h 11,0 s
0 - 180 km/h 13,9 s
0 - 200 km/h 17,6 s
I think that you could do what you're saying to an auto, but not to a manual, unless it was a pretty weak example (or driver)....or unless yours is a really strong one!
Hey, btw: how is it exactly that the M3 driver in the video "wasn't trying"? Looked like he punched it and shifted as fast as he could to me...

Just thought I'd post and say hi, long time BMW owner here (well, 7 of the last 8 years anyway), and currently looking at buying my next car, and the CLK55 AMG and CLK550 are creeping into my picture, along with the new 335i twin turbo coming out from BMW and the Cayman S. I'd hold out for the new E90 M3 coming out, but its a good 12+ months away and I am looking to buy in the next 1 to 3 months, and the sticker shock may be too much when it finally comes out. *grin* I also briefly considered the RS4, but low to mid 70's seemed a bit much for that car and likely more than I would want to spend for an Audi. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting the pricing on the CLK550 coming out, it looks to be an amazing car! Will be interesting to compare the numbers with the CLK55 AMG, they seem close in power.
Anyway, I had just started organizing all my thoughts as I was reading through this thread, when Improviz managed to steal my thunder in a well thought out post that covered all my exact points.
You da man, Improviz!Bixby, man, not even sure what to say about your post. It's
. You have to realize when you start posting things like the M3 is "a complete dog" and the M3 is inferior to the 350z in terms of quickness and handling, people are going to call you out on it, even if you own a MB are in a MB forum. It makes it sound like you don't know what you're talking about. As many have said, the 350Z and the E46 M3 aren't even in the same galaxy, on several levels. As I read through your post, I felt the same exact way everyone else on here did, that you are either high on crack, or have never spent much time in an M3, or both. I'd love for you to come visit us on m3forum.net, I can only imagine the responses you'll get.
Anyway, great forum guys, very informative. Look forward to logging a lot of time on here and reading through all the old threads and gathering information to help me make a decision.
So far almost all of the threads in here have been chock full of good information and level-headed opinions and comments. Also glad to see everyone here recognizes the amazing things that both AMG and M are out there doing there. I was seriously looking at the CLK500, btw, but when I saw the CLK550 was coming out and the power difference, I figure its worth the wait and money. Unless there will be just smoking deals on the CLK500's as the upgraded CLK550 model comes out. I'm not sure if I'd miss the power difference between the two, CLK500 vs CLK550. Anyway, I guess we'll see, I still have a lot more reading to do on here. Just wanted to pop in, say hi to everyone, give you guys props on an excellent forum, call BS on Bixby's ignorant posts, and then back off to reading through older threads.Great forums guys, keep up the good work and informative posts!

Still reading through tons and tons of threads on here and gathering info. Wonder how much the CLK550 will weigh under 3600 lbs do you think? Seems like the CLK550 is a better deal than buying say a slightly used 2005 CLK55 AMG, right?
Sorry if I derailed the thread.

Also, I'm not sure if they've gone to the seven speeds in the CLK55s yet, but if they haven't, the CLK550 would probably be a bit faster with that gearbox (should be keeping up on the new CLKs more, but I've been busy lately!)
ive only seen one on the road here and wanted to know if it was factory fitted?
Also, 17s I always see on Clk55 are too small, do they now come with the quality 18s that are on the C55? They look nearly as perfect as my competition pkg 19s!
im another M3 driver who likes AMGs. They're not quite as much fun, but are practically unbeatable in a straightline and look and feel special. I agree there's too many M3s about, but even e55s are relatively common, esp on the west coast. That being said, I even prefer em to the M5!
One final Q, how come the CLK55 is so much more expensif than C55?
Thanx Benzies.
Oh and I may as well join in. Bye Bixby, i hope you get over the trauma caused by the "granny shifter" on the M3.
