Difference between 6.3L V8 and 5.5L V8?
Is the output horsepower and torque the only big differences these two have?
Or let's put it in this way: The reason why new 07 SLK55 doesn't use the 6.3L is becasue the MB wants to limit its SLK55's horsepower under 400? They might use the new engine only on the future SLK63? (Just like CLK55 and CLK63)
I just feel like 2007 is gonna be the last year for all 5.5L based cars.
Anyways, I'm just an AMG newbie, correct me if I'm saying anything wrong. Thanks.

Other than hp and torque increase, the only things I know of that are different is the front bumper looks updated and there may be a racing timer on the instrument cluster.
I'm fairly new to MB, too.

C55AMG W203; 330i E90
My list:
SOHC will go.
5-Speed Auto will go.
7G is intrim. Utimate is clutchless manual.
C55 W203 does not get a 6.2 engine because W203 is fading out.
C63 W204 will get the 6.2 engine , detuned to ~410hp to compete with the M3 V8 market.
CLK63 is upclass, now 481hp, not cheap any more.
E63 gets 514hp because its weight need some boost to meet the 0-100 as the same priced CLK63.
SLK55 does not get a 63 engine is just because production schedule, not because AMG cannot detune the 6.3 to suit the SLK chasis.
C63 will be priced 10-15% more than the C55.

The SLK63 will debut along with the facelift for the SLK model itself. Yes the old 5.5L V8 is on its way out, at least in naturually aspirated form. The G55 and SL55 AMG model will continue to use the 5.5L V8 supercharged form for a while I guess. The C63 and SLK63 will have somewhere around 410-450hp by my guess. Mercedes likes to outpower Audi and BMW by more than a few hp with these AMG cars, in most instances.
The biggest differences between the old 5.5L and the new 6.2L is that the new engine is a clean-sheet design that shares nothing with other MB V8s, it is in fact AMG's first unique engine. The 6.2L is also a DOHC design with 32V and a whole host of racing tricks to make such hp and torque, something the BMW V10 doesn't do. You haven't seen anything yet, there are 571hp and 707hp turbocharged versions of the new V8 arriving in the coming years.

Sounds like some of you should have come to AMGfest in Montvale recently.....many if these questions were answered in detail by the AMG and MBUSA reps on hand.
'07 WILL NOT be the last year of the "55" motors. It will continue in the SLK and (in supercharged versions SL and G) and the 5-speed will continue in the G and SL and all the "65"-series AMGs (SL, S and CL) for the time being. Someone asked about a new 7-speed and they were unable to comment further.
On display were the current ML63, R63, CLS63 and E63....they have tuned the E63s exhaust to be much more aggressive sounding.

......as Chappy said "Sounds like some of you should have come to AMGfest in Montvale recently.....many if these questions were answered in detail by the AMG and MBUSA reps on hand." The SLK WILL NOT GET THE 6.3 motor until it gets a new chasis."The current SLK will not get the 6.3 motor because it has 2 fuel pumps and therefore cannot fit into the SLK chasis" - Rob Allan - AMG product manager 8/26 MBHQ.

I stand by my statement, there is no way AMG is going to design a new V8 and it doesn't fit in the SLK or next generation C-Class. The SLK55 Black Series is a 100K+ special that won't be sold in any great numbers, if at all in the U.S. and it really has nothing to do with the development of the facelifted AMG version of the SLK which is coming next year. Which I'm willing to bet will be the SLK63 or something (maybe a 6L version) with the new V8, not the old 5.5L SOHC V8.

Here is your quote, "This time next year the SLK63 will be a reality".All you have to do is provide your definition of "reality".Do you mean it will be on the "drawing board", if so, I will agree with you there.Do you mean it will be "produced" , that will not happen. The CURRENT SLK body/frame physically cannot fit the 6.3 motor, the SLK will have to be redesigned in order to accept the 6.3 motor. What you see written in BLUE is my statement , I can't make it any more clearer for you.
In short I think the reality will be that a SLK63 will be announced whenever the SLK gets its facelift, not when a totally new SLK appears around 2010 or so.
