CLK DTM - Need Your Help - Educated or knowledgeable Replies Only Please

[FONT="Times New Roman"]Ever since seeing the CLK-DTM Cabriolet that MB displayed at Goodwood, I have been trying to find out the Color of the car, the paint code, and any relevant information about the color on the car. Is it a metallic? A matte finish?

I have a 997 GT3 on order and would like to have a color to sample done with this color if possible. Unless it is a matte finish, I would most likely not do a matte finish car because I have not yet one that looked any good over the life of the car.

Any insight, Thank you for your help.

Pictures from Goodwood.

I have pics of that car which were taken for me -- looks fantastic!

This is a color that I have been extremely interested in, and which I call, "Blutech Blue" - if I am not mistaken. You will see this silver with the slightest bluish tint to it (akin to Pewter having some gold in it - only with the Blutech silver it is blue instead of gold) on all of the carshow and press Blutech MBZ's. Do a thread search or go to the carshow sites and you will see what I am talking about.

It is a new color, and isn't in regular production at this time as far as I know. It first popped onto the scene with the first autoshow that had a bluetech vehicle in it (Geneva?), if I remember right.

I am planning on asking in Affalterbach when I am there to so some car ordering to have several cars done in that color (including a CLK DTM Cab, aGL63, an SLR, and an SLK55).

If you find out what it is before I do post it up, please(!).

Yep. All you have to do is do a thread search here on the different carshows from the last 6 months or whatever. I have pics of that color on a GL, an ML, an E-Class -- and something else.....

I would post them up - but I am on ....

"Blutech Blue" is my name for it.

Since it's only photos of the cars, and not your cars why not just host them through Photobucket or something.

How come the Bluetec cars have a more metallic finish whereas the CLK has a matte finish.

Are you serious? If yes, then could you please give a list of all your cars and some pics? I'm sure if you can afford to get cars like that (custom painted from Germany no less) you probably also have some sick cars in the garage right now.

Overcast day at Goodwood means polarized light.

Bright lights indoors at a carshow means different color temperature - different look.

Lighting ALWAYS affects photography -- that's why TV and movie lighting, photography studios, and makeup exist....

I am not willing to bet my life on thinking that these are exactly the same paint -- but I do think that they are; and I have been keeping a VERY close eye on this for at least half a year now....

I really like the color.

I will be finding out exactly what is up with this; and I will post what I find out in these forums....

Then tell me why the Z4 M Coupe and Zonda in the back are reflecting. Or is it the paint color that's causing it to not reflect?

It seems to me that all of the newer MBZ metallics have quite a different appearance depending on angle and amount of direct light - I would assume that there is a similar situation with this paint as well....

I do know that the Brilliant Silver tends to look the same (at least to me) no matter what kind of light it is in. So to me it is obvious that many of the MBZ exterior paint colors are going to look different depending on the light that is on them, and some of the MBZ colors' appearance is not dependent on the lighting conditions....

One reason that I NEVER deicde on an exterior paint choice on a MBZ until I have had the opportunity to see the color on my model - or a similar model - in daylight.

Google 'Goodwood' or 'festival of speed' and you should be able to find pics of the CLK DTM Cab that was there -- gorgeous color, gorgeous car. That isn't how I got my pics of that car -- but somebody else must have photographed that car and posted the pic(s) somewhere on the net.

EDIT: I just checked the link in this thread - and those are pics of the CLK DTM Cab at Goodwood. Great color or what?!!!

Notice the reflection in the windows, but no reflection on the body at all.

I think that I gather the point that you are trying to make, Asian - but glass will almost always have a reflection, even in polarized light -- whereas most painted surfaces won't....

I have already determined that, unless I get lucky, I will have to go and talk with the folks directly in Affalterbach (which I am planning on doing anyway), and ask them specifically about this (or these ) paint(s) along with a whole list of other questions that I have, in the ordering of several new vehicles.

I do like the paint - alot - and wil be taking several cars in this/these color(s)....

And when I do, I am sure that you will be among the first to see them posted here along with an explanation on what the exterior and interior colors and treatments are in the forums.

I am not any further ahead on this question, at this pooint in time, than that....

Clay and everyone else thank you for the responses.

I am truly smitten with the color, just hope it would stand the test of time.

Clay, if you do indeed find out please let me know via this thread.
I am plannin on asking some Senior level MBUSA executives if they can get this information for me as well.

Lastly, I have seen the BlueTek cars in person, and the color is much different. Much Shinier.

Thank you all again,

Brian

You are more than welcome, Senna. Part of the reason that we are all here on the forums.

I appreciate the fact that you have seen the Bluetech color in person, and that it is different.

You and I are both pursuing this - and surely we will gain success at some point, and share it here in the forums.

I am going to order cars in this color -- apparently you and I are both smitten with it. LOL.

Good Stuff.

If you can afford a custom paint job then you can afford a plane ticket to AMG.
