CLK55 Vs. SLK55 video, ORDER UP!!!
Look what I found. Oh it's the video that refuses to finish uploading. I finally managed to upload it this morning. See if you can figure who's cars are these.

IIRC, that was the day there was a bunch of antifreeze dumped on the track (both sides)...the fun stops if I can't stay consistently in the 13.6 or faster category...
BTW, the SLK55 is one of my best friends and his car manages much better consistent times.
WAIT! I have an idea.......REMATCH! More to come at the Atlanta AMG Meet!

Chappy,
I can drop a high quality full size copy on a disc if you want one. so don't worry about trying to save it. But you can copy and paste the link to show friends.
Did you ever have any luck with your video's?

This is a run from my 500E right behind Chappy's. It took a set of M/T Drag ET's to get hooked up with this 4300 lb. Fat Boy.

Looking for a new toy.
Nice vids - as anyone who goes to the track regulary can attest, track conditions/weather/elevation/etc. can play havoc with times/trap speeds.
What is that SLK55's best times though if I may ask?

As far as the slicks go, I have them but never planned on using them again. I'll be happy to let you try them if you wish.
The problems I see are;
1. They are an absolute nightmare to drive on the track. With 8-11 pounds of air in these 15 inch rim size (lots of flexible sidewall) bias-ply tires that have very soft sidewalls designed to wrinkle. Even turning off the end of the track the rearend wants to come around.
2. Will they fit? I forgot what size they are right off, but They are a match in diameter to the tires on My 500e, The CLK takes a smaller diameter. May cause traction control/esp issues.
3. Different profile tires, This may cause an issue with the esp/traction control because of not only the different diameter but the fact that YOU WILL BE FISHTAILING DOWN THE ENTIRE DRAGSTRIP!!! That what it feels like because that is what is going on. I can see this problem will probably be way worse with the the CLK55's front tire being so responsive and the difference in ratio being larger..
I was running the 225/55/16 tires on the front and this was a handful. It doesn't look like it, but my knuckles were white and underwear was sucked my crack after every run! Very intense! It's hard to not let off when your fishtailing!
4. Fishtailing and your car will be doing it. How much will the esp pickup on and try to correct? I can turn the traction control completely off at will in the 500E. Can you really completely turn off the esp?
5. ABS. Since they were a match in size to my front tires, I had no problem braking. With the CLK's smaller diameter the difference may be enough to cause the brake to see the tires as slipping and intervene.
6. Tire growth. These slicks grow. Is there enough room for the tires at the end. Higher speed equal larger diameter. And increased interferance from the esp/traction.
7. Nothing is free, with drag slicks you trade some speed for e.t. improvement.
Bottom line is, I would not recommend this. I would either go get a set of drag radials or limited slip differential. The latter is what I have done in the 500E and I have identical 60 foot time to the slicks in worse conditions with 135 lbs. heavier weight.

btw...the E500 breaking into the 13's is nice for a 99 trap. Do you run 14.xx with street tires.

SLK55 AMG (previously C32 AMG)
I think the best I've done is 13.2, but it's usually very easy to get in the mid 13's. I've heard of SLK55s getting well down into the 12's under good conditions.
That was a really bad run. If I remember correctly, the guy 2 cars in front of me blew up, and dumped antifreeze all over.

The track was slippery but the weather was great that day.
