SpeedTuningUSA Chip Purchase & Dyno To Come
Ok, I have researched the different chips available for a 2001 CLK55 AMG and determined that based on their representations they all appear to be about the same in their improvement numbers and what they can do, which includes (1) increase HP and TQ, (2) increase the redline and (3) remove the VMAX speed limit of 155.
After speaking with Oliver at SpeedTuningUSA, I have decided to try their 93 octane ECU reprogram. I will have the car dynoed after driving it hard for 200 miles so that the ECU can adjust to the new program in order to see how the numbers improve, or not, over stock. The ECU can then be adjusted again if needed according to the A/F ratios and RMP in order to fine tune the program.
I believe that we can verify whether this reprogram lives up to the claims of an increase in stock hp from 342 hp to 373 and a stock TQ of 376 to 391. For the price, it would be a big bang for the buck at $325.00. Most likely after a retune the program could be more refined for the general masses- at least the 2001 and 2002 CLK55 crowd.
I will request the following modifications:
(1) Redline moved from 6,000 to 6,400 (may only be valuable in lower gears)
(2) Performance increase based on 93 octane
(3) VMAX speed limitation of 155 removed (this will have to be tested)
I will keep you posted. If the chip works as claimed or even close to it because each car is different (i.e. I have green filters), then I will try and organize a group buy for those interested. I believe this will help other chip resellers compete more competitively in this space. However, if the chip reprogram doesn't work as claimed, I will certainly make every member aware of this fact.

Awesome. I also have the SpeedTuningUSA ECU upgrade for my CLK500. I found there was definitely an increase in hp/tq and I was able to go past 135mph. I've had it for about a year now and I'm not sure if my ECU is back to stock because of the numerous visits to the dealer and the tuning for NOS. But I could definitely feel a nice acceleration and response increase as soon as I got the file uploaded.
Good luck

Excellent! Finally someone is going to dyno before and after. I felt a nice gain on my CLK430 but it was according to my butt dyno which needs calibration, lol. I had organized a group buy with Oliver before. Ask him if he will still give you the discount through the group buy Ahmad put together for mbworld. It wont hurt to try. Keep us posted!

Who is the issuer of your performance chip? In speaking with Oliver at SpeedTuning USA, their custom programing is only $500 to $700, depending on what you like.
For example, I am considering a socket where I can swap a 93 octane chip and a 100 octane chip for the track- for a total cost of $700. That is awsome if you ask me.
You may want to give Oliver a call [(301) 421-9464] and mention that you spoke with me (Allan with the 2001 CLK55 AMG) and he will remember our whole discussion yesterday and today regarding the CLK car and what it is we want done. You can then inquire about a more custom program for your car with its specific modifications. If you speak with him, keep us posted on the developments. Good luck!

Allan,
Have you had your car dynoed before? Both times I had mine done at the AMG Meets here in ATL, the car kept downshifting. I hear there's a fuse or something that can be removed, but my understanding is that it throws a code....
Check with "Ted Baldwin" about this as he's got a W210 E55 on the dyno several times.

Hey Chappy,
No, unfortunately, I have not dynoed the car before. I was going to ask how to perform this since I understand it can be an issue. In fact, I was going to ask you since I see you have dynoed your car. Do you believe you didn't have a proper dyno then due to the downshift?

However, we don't have dyno mode to just switch eveything off. Blackbenzz may be another member to ask.

I couldnt get my car to dyno right. I did pull the fuse (dont remember which one it was) and it cut EVERYTHING including ESP and ABS off. It didnt make a difference for the downshifting on the dyno though.

I want to do more, like a bored out throttle body but not sure if that would give me anything, got bet to the punch on PTE's cams. Thing about it is if you get to far into the NA mods you might as well pony up the dough for a supercharger.

It was an interesting day at the dyno. My car performed perfectly. No issues.
Chappy's car kept down shifting. No clue why. Our cars dynoed with in 2 hp and 3 lb ft of torque. So we did get good numbers for both.
The W211 E55s we dynoed were with in 5 hp and 5 lb ft of tourque. I think we had 4 of them. Again good numbers.

So, you just put the car in drive and let the car do the rest for the dyno?
Please post the dyno numbers so we can see some baseline figures. I should have a dnyno by the end of April so within 30 days or so. Need to drive the car with the new reprogramed chip first. Should have the ECU back on Wed. or Thur.

Ashutt,
If I remember correctly they turned off the traction control and shifted my car manually. However even in manual mode the car will down shift from 4th to third under heavy load like a dyno run. Mine didnt but Chappy's did.
My car put down 301.5 hp and 318 lb ft of torque at the rear wheels.
I only got 1 run and the dyno trigger broke. Everyone else got at least 2 or 3 runs. The cars did better on the second runs after the computers had a chance to adjust.

First time: 290WHP, 313TQ (April 2005)
2nd Time: 304WHP, 321 TQ (November 2006)
Two different facilities (but same equipment - Dynojet), ambient temps and humidity were different, the car was more broken in the 2nd time, etc, etc. Both times I had issues with downshifting, but managed one "clean" run at the first Atlanta AMG Meet in April '05.
Honestly, I've only dynoed my CLK for fun (my engine/intake/ecu is still stock).....but it seems I've gotten a lot of 'mileage' out of beating Owen by 2hp.
I know that it's strong (for a stock "55")....13.3 @ 109.00 in the quarter with a 2.1 60' on the original air filters. My buddies dad is an ex-pro drag racer and calculated that I was 360-365 at the crank with those numbers, based on the weight of the car. AMG says "stock" hp at the crank is 342.
