CLK 55 Cab Market has gone to complete sh-t

After two weeks on ebay, I just sold my '02 55 cab w/6400 miles on it for $65,000. Only 10 months ago I paid $83,000. Talk about a depreciation hit. I can't believe how fast the values of these cars are dropping. I realize this isn't the time of year to be selling a droptop, but I can only imagine what these cars will be selling for when the new CLK cab comes out next spring.

CLK55
cabs

less than a month ago I saw a CLK55 cab at Ewing Mercedes in Plano Texas, though they were still asking near list for a used car

I think a couple of things right now are a factor - people don't realize how unbelievably limited the US production was for this car (what maybe 500? in a partial year run?). I can't think of another car besides the new maserati that seats 4, is a cab, and can do 155.

A new model release (209) obviously is the other culprit.

I feel your pain - it doesn't help us other CLK55 owners either, but I don't think there are nearly as many folks running around buying expensive imports with the US economy in the slumps (stock market, going to war etc). There are so many amazing hot (fast) cars coming out of germany right now that the 208 is quickly forgotten

I'm just not sure who has the money to buy them

The used car *market* has gone to sh*t here lately.

For which you can thank 0% financing and lots of fantastic incentives. I haven't been tracking the sale prices on the CLK55 ragtops, but I have been keeping very close tabs on the 55 and 430 coupes; so far, I haven't seen any fall-offs in the book values. But insofar as resale goes, CLKs are about the best that's out there, although that's little consolation in your case.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
I tend to think it's a temporary valuation drop.

The CLK55 ranks highest in my driving experience and I am going to get the extended premium to take me up to 100,000 fun-filled miles.

By 2006/7 the economy will be booming and RARE cars like the 208 CLK55 AMGs, will probably sell for 35,000 for the Coupe and 45,000 for the Cab, -- conservatively speaking.

Hold on to your valued CLK AMG!...during stormy weather and keep it ORIGINAL.

According to

http://www.cars.com/carsapp/national...2002&x=10&y=11

The 2002 CLK55 convertible has the following residual values based on $80,665:

24 months @ 66% = $53,550
36 months @ 58% = $47,600
48 months @ 52% = $42,750
60 months @ 47% = $38,575

Your one year hit to 78% sounds about right.

BTW, the 55 coupe does 3% better across the board for some reason while the 430 cab does better than the 430 coupe.

I consider myself lucky that

I got almost 70k for my CLK 55 cab right around july 4th.....the thing is I had almost 19,000 miles on mine (yes I do drive my cars)so the fact I got near 70k makes me very happy when I see prices now, if the guy had waited 1-2 mths he could have got the same car for 65k and about 14,000 miles less on the odometer....the other thing is, my dealer was cool enough to do it through his books (he had originally sent the guy to me in the first place too) so if I stay in the States (which is very doubtful) I will also get a 3.5k tax break on my next car, as thats MA ruling

Amazing - how close my "crystal ball" came to these stats in my projection above. I just purchased an extended MB premium warranty for these stormy times.

The clk55 market will pick up after more of the new model are available. Everyone is enamored with a new model even if it is not that great. Give it two years and our cars will be a breeze to get top dollar.
