Poorly Designed Front Bumper

I am the owner of a 2002 CLK55. For the second time in a year I have cracked the front bumper on the curb while backing out of a parking spot. It is my opinion that this bumper was poorly designed as it did not allow enough clearance under the car. I have not had satisfaction with MB and am considering a class action lawsuit against MB. How many of you out there have had a similar experience. Would you be willing to join forces against MB to acknowledge the problem and pay for our repairs?

well, I cracked my AMG bumper on my previous CLK430, and it took only that one time to learn my lesson to pay more attention to those nasty cement blocks. Hopefully this second time, you will have learned your lesson.

This does NOT change the fact that the AMG bumpers on the W208 ARE very poorly designed and flimsy. I don't think that MB is going to pay for any of our repairs though.......

Markus91649, I may not be perfectly clear on exactly what you want Mercedes-Benz to do. To me, it sounds like you’d like them to
  1. Supply you with a new bumper
  2. Paint that new bumper to match your car
  3. Install the newly painted bumper.
And you’d like them to do this every time you, or anyone else destroys a CLK bumper in what you consider to be normal parking maneuvers.

Is that correct?

Honestly, I don't think you stand a chance with a C.A. lawsuit. Do the bumper covers crack under those circumstances? Yes. Did MB build the car wrong? No.

My C5 Vette would scrape the driveway apron every time until I figured out how to get it on just the right angle. Not GM's fault the nose was so low to the ground, my fault for not recognizing the possibile problems a ground hugger would present.

try not pulling all the way up to the parking block. the car has a low over hang. it is part of what makes it look good.

My car isn't lowered and I just barely clear regular curbs. Is yours lowered or is it still stock height?

Yea, I cracked my front spoiler backing out over a curb...once! I had it repaired with fibergrlass and reinforced, and haven't had a problem since...because I learned to stop before the curb. The cost of repair was lesson enough for me. A class action suite is silly.

My W208 was lowered with Brabus and it ate one cement stopper the whole time I owned it, and it cracked my bumper. Man, did that blow! Be careful out there!

Let me guess the way you tell when to stop when parking is when your front tires hit the parking block.

If this is the case than you're an idiot for parking that way and an idiot for buying a car that deserves not to be driven like an SUV.

As for the Class Action Law Suit, do you really want it to be on record that legally you're an idiot?

+1
It is not a requirement to over run the curb.
