Tonight I saw a CLS pull into a gas station and I thought it was an AMG based on the rims, and since I love the W219 I went over to take a look at it and on the back (I apologize for the terrible picture but you can make out the ///AMG badge) it said "CLS" with no numbering and on the other side "AMG" - however it obviously isn't since it has the dual exhaust and based on the years it's a CLS500. As I was looking at it the guys comes out and I compliment the fact that it was a CLS, but as I turned to walk away I said "You should probably take the AMG badge off it though" which was terrible judgement since the guy was BUILT so I got out of there. I've taken the poser trolling into IRL.

 

I don't have an AMG badge on my C55. It did not come with one from Fletcher Jones Mercedes

 

Aparently Renntech approves of this faux sl55 amg... AMG badges are clearly available anywhere, but why would Renntech add their exclusive perf badge to this basic 500/550 sl? Is the overpriced carbon fiber spoiler all thats needed to justify the mighty Renntech badge these days?

This is pure BS. We just had a battle over the value of this thread (if any) and if this kind of crap is exposed, then the thread is a public service. What the hell is RT thinking? $$$ I suppose. This makes me proud that in spite of the fact that I have a number of RT mods, I refused to sport the RT badge.

This thread is great I'm here for the fun.... I love the tech threads cause it helps me save money that I don't have... On another note I jus don't get why some people with the badges do it & hope one of them tells us why they do it.... I'm by far not in any financial position to be a snob yet..... lmao... I'm working on it tho..... I NEED MONEY feel free to send me some.... i'm a car idiot.... I have M's and an AMG.... Luckily to have the ability to work on them along with the knowledge I get from here so thanx to MBWorld for all you do for me.... as for the geo metro I think guys like this are rich guys jus laughing at guys like me because I look like I spent a lot of money on a depreciating asset.... They don't understand me like I don't them..... looking for answers.

Also why badge your car when you already have a nice one..... People I know by fake things... clothes, watches, shoes, I jus don't do it!! So its funny to me when I see it. Just adding my two cents....

You bring up to valid points; which is why this tread has lasted so long IMO.

1. This thread is mainly for fun. People have come and gone, getting out of shape about it because it is fun, but it has a lot of truth in it.

2. You don't have to be wealthy or a snob to get original, good quality products in life; you just have to be smart about it:

TIME + DEPRECIATION = OPPORTUNITIES for most of us who are not in a position to afford the MSRP of a brand new AMG car.

Instead of wasting time and money installing badges, stickers, used wheels and all sorts of AMG bits and pieces (some of them fake), some prefer to buy the real deal, even if it is a few years old.

The money I saved by not buying used AMG parts goes towards fuel and I get to drive my real AMG instead of laying under another car, trying to make IT look like one.

You do pay for it in maintenance cost, but I guess that depends heavily on mileage and year when it comes to a used AMG or used Mercedes in general. I agree though! I can't imagine spending 20k on a little econobox sh*twagon to get it from the dealer when I could use that money and get a pretty nice E55 AMG!

I told him to remove the amg badge, that car is actually very nice. It has the clk63 style rear bumper and clk63 front bumper along a other some very nice bbs lm wheels, clk63 calipers and coilovers. But that badge gotta go!!!!!
