Anyone here know of any aggressive performance mods for the CLK55? Cams, headers, etc

Anyone here know of any aggressive performance mods for the CLK55? Cams, headers, etc

I'm looking to pick up a '03 / '04 CLK55 amg within the next few months, and I was wondering if anyone here knows or can point me in the right direction of someone who knows the different options for performance mods on the 5.5L motor? Such as cams, headers, if anyone makes an intake, if there are better intake manifold options, anything? I know Supersprint makes LT headers, but at $3k, I'd rather get a set custom built, using better merge collectors, and proper tube diameter / length. I also know that Kleeman and a few others make cams for the 5.5L, but I was wondering if anyone know of a source that could make custom grinds? I have a guy that produced 440rwhp in my cam-only LS1, and I'd like to get a custom grind for him.

Also, I know different companies have different tuning options, but $1600 or more for a tune... come on now. There has to be a cheaper option than that. And if there isn't, I'll just buy a stand alone engine management system, and STILL save money over an ecu flash... lol

Thanks for any and all help!!

Look up "PTE" as I believe he may be able to give you details on the cams (IIRC he's got a set for sale as I type this).

As for the rest....it really depends on your goals - and your budget. Will this be a daily driver?

The biggest bang for the buck is going to be a blower.

I know blower is best bang for the buck, but I'd like to see what the motor can do in n/a form. Eventually i may save up the coin to get the heads ported, and forge the bottom end and slap a blower on, but for now I'd like to stay n/a. Do you (or anyone else) know of any company that makes true LT headers for the w209 chassis? Or if there is a better than stock intake manifold that'll fit the 5.4l?

AFAIK, PTE has the fastest NA W209 on the boards. Mbenzman created a custom intake on his W208-55.

Not sure what's available header-wise (other than Kleemann, etc.)

Link to PTE's cam sale thread...

VRP cams and Kleemann blower. It sounds like you want to budget mod and that doesnt mix well with benzes IMO. You will see how much different it is than the LS1 world which is why there arent as many heavily modded benzes as there are chevys/fords etc

If you keep up with these kinds of statements you'll eventually feel like you've won the lottery.

I say sell it! ,

because you want to mod it and you're not gonna want to pay what it would cost to do so.

With a Benzo you have to pay to play bottom line!

Lol... I know good and well it's not going to be cheap, I was mainly just asking for information on where I can get either some custom cams ground, or if anyone makes any sort of tuning software for the cars.

yes klemmann renntec are two but believe me any mods you do to a very well factory tuned car is going to be high BMW Ferrari Mercedes Porsche you better have deep pockets because these aren't American muscle . cant build these cars cheap . you can but i dont recommend Joe bobs corner fix it shop to play under the hood of these machines . the est. for my car is 11,500.00 for cams, headers , ecu tuning , cold air box ,plus labor . so dont kid yourself if you think tuning one of these cars is gonna be cheap . you better have deeeeep pockets for this project.

I would sell you my whole s/c setup (kleemann s/c, headers, johnson CM90 marine pump, and custom heat exchanger) for less that that!

We don't need the header. We just want the complete sc kit. $7.5K is a very reasonable offered consider the new kit is retail for $11K and a used kit directly from Cory with warranty is run around $7K. The only problem is, it the new root type sc and not the old twin-screws type.
