2002 CLK55 coupe value?
i think it's time to part with my 2002 CLK55 coupe, which has been sitting unused for more than a year.
please tell me what you think it should be worth to a private buyer and to an MB dealer (no trade) given the following:
capri blue over two-tone AMG interior
every option including phone
50k miles
excellent interior and mechanicals
good exterior (normal road wear)
MB extended warranty (1.5 years and 50k miles remaining)
very good tire life
always MB serviced
please tell me your thoughts as soon as you are able.
thanks very much,
dave
my dealer offered 16,000 for outright purchase. what do you think?
MBUSA.com had only one 2002 coupe:
CLK55C 2002 $22,995 58,202mi Brilliant Silver MB of Columbus (GA)
there are plenty of 2002 55 coupes on cars.com with both higher and lower asking prices.
perhaps someone with auction prices will post shortly.

I don't have access to auction prices. Have you tried Carmax to see what their offer is?
If you trade in your car (to any dealership), the warranty will have no value as it is stripped off. The warranty can only be transferred to a private party.
Best of luck in your sale.
21-24 is what you can expect from what I have seen. I would not take Holson's price as the going rate. Personally, I think he could get quite a bit more for his car if he wanted to. His car appears to be immaculate. The fact that you have a warranty will help. That was a big one for me.
Also, it seems like people that put newer wheels on their 208's were selling a lot faster. Good luck with the beast!
please tell me where along the east coast you believe there'd be the best demand for this car?
thanks.

I think you can get more than $20k for it. If you ask $20k you will get offers 3-4k less than that. If you ultimately will take $20k, I think that is a GREAT deal. I would list it for 22-24k and set your bottom at $20k if that is what you want for it. You could always put it on Ebay and set the reserve at 20k and off with it. I don't know how quickly you need to sell.
Go on autotrader and you will see what i am talking about. Some people are still asking high 20's which they will not get. Definitely put it on this site in the for sale section and also in the CLK320/430 area. I know a lot of people that have 430's would like to upgrade to a 55 and the used prices for 430's vs 55's believe it or not are not that far off on price.
As you know it takes a real discriminating buyer to really know and apprciate the beast of a car you are selling. Good luck with the sale. I hope my two cents helped.

Good luck with yours!
These cars aren't easy to sell, maybe my next car will be a Silver Toyota Corolla :-p
the dealer's as diligent as they get. they start and drive it around periodically, and maintain it as required.
it's sort of senseless for me to go back up north to hang around attempting to sell it. and it's just as senseless to bring it down here, rent a spot for 300-400 monthly, and try to squeeze out a couple thousand more dollars. the cost to transport it down and then garage it would eat that potential gain before i ever were to see it.
trading it in for the 2008 G55 the dealer up north is enticing me with would bring the extra value. but i'd be in the same parking predicament.
that's why i'm wondering aloud here on the board about values.
for 4k-5k more than the dealer purchase offer, it makes some sense to attempt a private transaction. for the couple of thousand i referenced above, it probably doesn't. for something in between, i'd ruminate a moment before deciding.
thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

RE: your intentions to try to sell your car.
I am in the market for a CLK55, would you please send me a PM or post in the forum the car's specifications, factory equipment and options such as parktronic and navigation?
Also, where is the car located - I am in the Washington, DC metro area. Can I have it inspected by a fellow from the MBCA?
Please reply ASAP since I am considering two other cars that are also for sale and need to make a decision very soon.
Thanks much.
Kind regards,
Orazio
the car has every option. parktronic was not available at the time, therefore the car doesn't have it. but it does have navigation and CDs, xenons, voice control, phone cradle (and phone)...everything that was available at the time.
it is, and has been, at a philadelphia area dealer. you would be more than welcome to talk with any of the service advisors, most of whom are familiar with me, and have any mechanic you wish look over the car thoroughly. however, i publicly assure you in this forum that my CLK55 has been maintained only by MB and that every scheduled service has been -- or will be -- performed. i also assure you that i have always been very careful with all of my cars.
please let me know if you'd like to make arrangements.
whichever car you choose, i hope it turns out to be the right choice.
