ecu upgrade question

i'm in the process of buying a 2003 clk 55 amg, and i was wondering...

what would be some future downfall of modding the ecu or add a powerchip. would the life of the car reduce overwhelmingly even if i only redline it once or twice a week?

p.s., if someone you know is selling a 03 clk 55 or 500, pm me.

Don't waste your money. AMG invested millions of dollars developing the software for our cars. Aftermarket ecu mods/tuning returns are very limited to none at all. For more performance look into headers, exhaust, cams and intake polishing and a super charger.

AMG did not leave much on the table when developing our cars.

ECU mods can actually improve performance and drivability of your car. I personally work with our software people from the driver's side to develop the software to improve the driving experience.

They will not hurt the car if done correctly (search for threads on here for ECU tunes gone wrong). They basically free up 10-20 HP in the car that MB leaves in there for idiots that might put 87 octane fuel in the car and cause detonation otherwise if it was truly tuned for 91+ octane from the factory. These cars come from the factory running very rich and they lean that out for you also.

It also removes the speed limiter (not than most people will ever go the true limit of the car) and smooths out the acceleration.

I am very happy with mine and Aaron with StealthAuto (Sponsor here) can get you a PowerChip tune and make sure you are happy.

Chips are great, and unlock performance that was hidden due to the worldwide conditions that our cars can face in the field.

That being said, I'd have to do a test drive before I am convinced to do a chip on my CLK55.

I have a custom ECU tune done by Superchips and right away I noticed the difference.

Last week pinned the speedo at 160mph/killed the rumored 155mph speed limiter and the car was still pulling so I also know the speed limiter has been banished or raised.

so doing a ecu mod to my car, my car can still get to 200k miles , if i take car of it??? and as for other mods like exhaust and headers, would that reduce life and driveablilty to the car, and how long does evotech and kleeman headers and exhaust are know to last anyways?
