02 CLK 55 AMG air filter
I recently bought a 02 CLK 55 with 36,500 miles from a private seller. The car is a beast, I used to have a 03 350z which felt like a slug compare to the CLK 55. Anyway I tried to get to the air filter which has special screws holding the box!? Also I located the tranny dipstick but the little red tab broke off and can't pull the stick out!

There is no transmission dipstick. That's a cover. You'll need a new one. The parts guy may refer to it as a lock pin. It's part number 140-991-0055, and the last time I checked the retail price it was $1.65.
Those special screws on the airbox require torx bits. You may want to buy a set of male and female bits (also referred to as Torx bits and external Torx). Just about any tool supply or automotive parts chain store will carry them. You'll need them to work on a Mercedes. They're everywhere.

Thanks guys. But my C36 has the similar dipstick or cover and it is a dipstick which I can check the fluid level. How do I know if the tranny fluid is good?

First I have to register the car when the good title comes this Wed. Damn DMV said the title was no good. So the previous owner ordered the title which comes next day air. The car is sitting in the garage waiting to be unleashed! BTW the guy I bought it from he put on 245 45ZR 17 fronts and same in the rears! He told me the stock size was too harsh. Well the rears won't last anyway.

Fella's how in the hell do you get to the Torx screw from its position? I thought the hood cover would just pop off but as you can see below, it looks like the cover is bolted down by a Torx screw. Is this correct? Do I need more tools? Please share your thoughts on this. I don't think the air filter has been changed since 2004. I'm looking to replace the stock one's with new K&N filters.

My 02 also has torx screws. Get to it by removing the cover than taking the whole box off from the air mass sensor. Thats when you take the screws off. Maybe the 04 is different

I hear what you're saying but the problem is that the cover seems to be bolted down with the top head of the screw pointed downward toward the engine bay which makes it difficult to get to at that angle. if you look closely at the pic I attached, I circled in red and with a red arrow pointing to the screw that appears to be bolting down the top cover. How do you get to the screw?
