Quote: it shouldnt take more than 30 mins. to let it dry. I let my dry about 20 mins. then I put it back in. Let me know the result...
The problem did not go away... here's what happened. After taking off the MAF I went out and bought some CRC electrical cleaner for MAF's. I followed the directions step by step sprayed the sensor 16 times. Then I let it dry for about 30 mins, put the MAF back on and fired up the car...all is fine so far. I had about a half tank of gas so I decided to go take it for a spin and fill up the tank since the gas station is right down the street. Filled up the tank with 91 octane and boy I smashed on the gas and away I went! It felt really strong and fast. Then it happened the car started knocking/hesitating again while waiting at the light to turn green. So, at this point I'm not sure what it is but I doubt if it's my MAF. It does seem to ride a bit better but its far from being normal. What I think I'll do is get a ODB ll sensor tomorrow, get my code and take it to the shop. I bought my car used from a private dealer and did not get the warranty I am not sure how the manufacture's warranty work but I would have to come out of pocket for any problems with the car. I just can't believe that these AMG cars have so many problems. I mean, all models from 2001-present are experiencing the same exact issues that we have. I guess I should have known better. Oh well, I'm hoping it's my O2 sensors and nothing too major cost wise.

hi martymar,

the MAF may need to be replaced. or maybe the fuel pump. have the code error checked. mine came out right away and the culprit was the Air Mass. replaced it and everything was fine. my symptoms were the same as yours. good luck!

I found the problem!
Today I went to autozone's to buy a OBD ll reader and the salesman told me I could use their's for free! After hooking up the reader I got my code (drum roll please) The code P0101 It's the MAF!!!! I'm happy because now I know what the issue is and what to do to fix it, thanks to my buds here on mbworld.org Oh yeah, after disconnecting the reader my check engine light went away as well. I haven't noticed any hesitation either but I'm sure it would come back if the MAF needs to be cleaned some more or simply replaced. Anyway, I went ahead and order one from autozone for $350 including, taxes, shipping and two-day delivery. In the meantime I have a lot of work to do (mods) now that my baby is getting better! Again, thanks a bunch fella's!

read above
autohausaz.com 170 bucks bosch unit.
the one you get from autozone is most likely going to be a clone unit and others that have gotten them from the chain auto stores end up with the same problems.
Did you take the insert out when you cleaned the maf?you need to take it apart to clean it properly.diy on benzworld w210 diy section.all you need is a torx bit to remove the insert from the maf body.

Do anybody know what size torx to use to remove the sensor in the MAF? I have a size 4...the one I used to remove the air filters..not sure if this is the same size.

A
T20 torx security bit, they come in a set of about 8 sizes at most shucks or sears or autozone. The kind with the dimple security hole in the tip.
ohlord
CRC brand maf cleaner only and spray in the slots below the wire with the resistor. It need only dry for 10 minutes before replacing and the maf will reset its values and no clearing of the cel is required nor the battery disconnect procedure.

Yeah the new one is on its way. I ordered it from autohausaz.com for $177 (taxes & 2-day shipping included). I just thought that I'll go ahead and try cleaning it 1 more time to see what would happen. Oh well...I'll just wait until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Oh yeah No competition. One day I raced my wife...yes my wife...she was driving the IS 350 and I was in the AMG. We're both at the light, the light turns green and we take off for about 2 blocks..not really a race because I don't like to encourage her to race We were neck and neck for about 2 blocks. Technically there was no winner but I can guarantee; had there been a different driver in the IS....say me, it would have been a different story. I was so embarrassed because I couldn't believe the AMG did not smoke it. I just knew I was gone to kill it. Needless to say she clowned me the whole night. For the record, I'm a Lexus man at heart. The only reason I bought the Benz is because I was so disappointed that Lexus over priced the IS F (In my opinion). I had my heart set on getting an IS F but for 61K it's too much money for a savvy version of the IS 350. Now, don't get me wrong my AMG is a nice car but the grass is no longer green as I have experienced the repair issues with Mercedes-Benz first hand So If I was asked to select a car based on quality and reliability Lexus would definitely be #1 on the top of my list.

Oh yeah I didn't mention...the IS 350 is stock...no mods whatsoever...no K&N filters...straight factory stock. I bought it in 2006 for my wife as a gift for graduating from UCLA I drive a 96 Honda Accord as my daily driver to work every day. I work about 45 minutes to an hour away so I rack up a lot of miles....265k to be exact The CLK 55 is only driven on some Friday's and most weekends.
