Powerchip Gold 93 ECU Tune for 04 CLK55

I've been discussing an ECU re-flash with Powerchip who claims a 25HP gain from their Gold 93 software for an 04 CLK55. Because I'm a returning customer (03 M5) they are giving me a good price break ($890.00). I searched the archives for CLK55 specifics but could not find any. Does anyone have any experience with the Powerchip Gold 93 ECU re-flash that they would care to share? BTW, I've also spoken with Renntech ($1,295 ouch) and Superchips ($999.99 ) who all claim similar HP gains.

Hi

I chippped my 2003 clk55 by a very well known firm in the UK (DMS) but to be honest saw no tangible gains (save for its delimited also in the process).

I think chnaging ECU settings is really only good for turbo and supercharged engines...

I flashed mine for the 91 Octane from Power Chip because the gas around here is only 91 Octane. They claim 18 hp for the Silver ECU which I did notice quite a difference when I re-installed the ECU. Way more reponsive. I also have the K&N Filters and later installed the EVO Underdrive Pulleys. All three combined have made the car feel a lot quicker in all areas from launch and mid range punch, especially around 3000. Once you step on it for a second the ECU then knows to go to full performance and if you punch it again then the engine seems to really snap. Or holding the shifter to the left for a second so it choose the correct gear the it will really go. Most on this board don't feel that the Powerchip delivers what they claim. I say you can feel the difference and for the price they quoted you I don't think you can go wrong!

I also had mine done at speedtuningUSA for $300 and noticed a pretty strong gain. I was happy with what he explained as compared to what I received. Oliver was very realistic.
I have been very happy - no problems since install (been 8 months).

Had mine done at SpeedTuningUSA as well for $300 or so and very happy with the results. Optimized for 94 octane. I don't think I would pay more than that as there is not a lot the tuner can do on non-turbo cars except remove limitations and advance the timing, which requires a higher octane gas.

SpeedTuningUSA Re-Flashed my ECU

Thanks everyone for the SpeedTuningUSA recommendation. Based upon your reviews, other MBWorld posts (W211, W209 etc.), and the relative closeness (MD) of SpeedTuningUSA to my home (VA) I contacted Oliver, took the car to him on Saturday and had my ECU re-flashed with their Stage II software for $399.00. The first thing I noticed was better throttle response coupled with what I believe is smoother acceleration throughout the power band. I'm not sure if I feel the claimed HP and torque gains yet but that will come according to Oliver when the ECU adapts to the new software in 200-300 miles. I know there are a few skeptics out there and I did not do before and after dyno runs to validate the claims. But compared to the prices I received from the other tuners I feel this is a good bargain.

I'm not knocking the other tuners but based upon my own homework if you're considering an ECU re-flash I think you're paying a lot for previous research and development and name recognition and I recommend that you consider SpeedTuningUSA as a low-cost alternative. JMHO.

Removing the ECU...

Does anyone have any instructions(online links) on how to remove the ECU on a CLK 55 AMG? I hear it's fairly easy to remove. I'm looking to make some performance mods and this seems to be one of the easiest and less expensive things to do other than adding a pulley. Any thoughts or suggestions anyone?
