CLK 55 AMG
Extended Warranty
Does anyone have an extended warranty on the car or cars? I have a 01 clk55 and the factory warranty is finished. I received in the mail some letter offering me a chance to purchase an extended service contract, but I've never heard of them. Its through a company called APC (Automotive Product Consultants, Inc.). Has anyone ever heard of them? Does anyone have an extended service warranty? Through who? and could I ask how much you paid?
Any help would be appreciated.

2. Auto Warranty Brokers (http://www.autowarrantybroker.com/) I have this one! Prices are different model to model, depends what kind of coverage are you looking for. Some of them you can add specific coverage, things like seals and gaskets! Make sure that you put some time into research, a lot of these companies go broke all of the sudden, and you are left with no coverage and no money back. Make sure that they are independently insured as well! Good luck!

i bought mine from my local MB dealership. it is solid warranty but my god is it pricey. $5600 for 5 years or 60,000 miles. i only bought it because of the glycol tranny issue. i am not going to get stuck buying a $10,000 transmission. plus this gives me piece of mind.

I may be gambling, but the warranty on my '01 CLK55 ran out and I did not extend it. From the information provided to me, it did not cover items that wear out over time. Knock on wood, but I have not had any maintenance issues with it. I did have an '02 S500 with the 1 year extended warranty. I want to say it was Starmark or something that was offered by the dealer. It was worth it for more than a few items.

not trying to scare you guys but if anything goes wrong electrically you can expect to spend a minimum of $2000. the warranty i bought allows you to pay 10% down and you can pay the rest over 18 months with no interest. which is pretty cool if you dont want to shell out $5000+ all at once.

You are correct, they don't. I don't have an AMG but, I actually tried the Warranty Direct route, and got hammered by the dealer. They DO NOT take third party warranties that don't come from MB. The service manager at RBM said she had 2-3 claims on her desk from last July (07
) that were not fulfilled. Buckhead Mercedes had an issue as well when I asked. Long story short, I got my money back and cancelled the WD policy.
WD argued, they would deal with a dealer that would not take a third party warranty, they pay by credit card, listed with BBB, and pay claims, etc. but the bottom line came down to:
If I need to take my car (especially the CLS) in for major work, it would go to the dealer. They won't take the warranty. It would be useless at that point when I need it most.
So now, I am back to the debate on getting an extended warranty through MB or not. It is about $5300 for a 5 yr/100K, and accepted at any MB shop. Would this be more cost effective to get the warranty or take my chances?
(I asked about this before, turned into some nutty convo about affordability. Cost effective is not the same as affordability)

How long do you plan on owning the car?
How many miles/year do you put on the car?
Is this your primary driver?
For me, the decision was easy - but I ended up paying just $2490 for a 3yr/100K extended warranty for an AMG. I knew when I bought the CLK (6 years ago) I would be keeping the car a while and that certain things (engine, transmission, ECU or other computers, etc.) are very expensive.
The other thing to consider is shopping for your MB warranty. You do not have to purchse it from your dealer. In fact, I bought mine over the phone from the Chico, CA dealer who discounted the price $1000.

Best of luck in your decision.

I would say "it depends"

Miles are about 10K/yr now, since I drive the E320 during the week.
I drive her Fri-Sun, mostly Sat-Sun.
That is another way to go at it, good suggestion. I will inquire at other dealers on the warranty and do price comparisons.

i did not feel like shopping around and i wanted peace of mind. i am not going to baby any car that i own. i want to be able to drive it the way i want and know i am covered. my gti is out of warranty and i will not renew but only because a really close friend of mine is a tech and he can pretty much do anything and everything to my car from his garage.
