2003 AMG SL55, 2002 AMG CLK55, 2002 AMG ML55, 2005 ML350, 1995 S320 LWB - totaled
Help a brother out - opinions please!
I will be adding to my AMG collection now my 911 is sold.
I am torn between an SLK55 and an E55.
Who here has owned both and what are your thoughts?
I realize 2 very different cars. I already have a CLK55 and an S320.
So do I need a convertible or a really fast sedan?

if i had the money i would buy the E55. why not save your money and buy the latest C class AMG. 451 NA horses is plenty. it will probably handle better than the E too.

Depends how much money you looking to spend the E55's are going for dirt cheap right now. So if you have a lil more money get the E63...the SLK is a lowe class than the E....

I don't think SLK is low class than E; it's just different car for different purpose.
SLK is relatively quicker than CLK. and it's convertible..
You have S class for big sedan... so I would look into convertible that you dont have..

CLK55 / E350 Coupe
If its the current body style SLK, i love that car go for that. For how small it is, it stands out. E55 solid car, its a monster to drive but very subtle only a merc fan could tell from a debadge AMG and a 350.
I dunno how attached you are to your S320 but if you were to get a E55 that would be a nice fit if you were to replace.
Looks liek you like small agile cars, 911 and WRX. SLK would be cool but don't ya think its a bit too much like your CLK?

Your choices are very different. While the blown V8 has tons of grunt, it is also packed with many more electronic systems that will be EXPENSIVE to fix (suspension, SBC braking, etc.) versus the conventional suspension and NA V8 in the SLK.
The SLK exhaust sounds much better than the E, unless you mod it.
Go drive both....that will help sway your decision.
BTW, I know of a certain black on black SLK55 that may be coming on the market very soon....the owner is eyeballing the new C63.
