Unhappy Trouble with Headlights on CLK55 AMG

I recently purchased a 2003 CLK55 AMG and am having problems with the headlights coming on. When I turn them on, one or the other low beam lamps wont light. I flick the switch on and off and eventually the lamps will light. Or i can wiggle my steering wheel and it appears to make them light.
My dealer has put the car on their computer and reccomends that I replace both headlight assemblies at a cost of over 3k. I do not see how the replacement of the assemblies can affect the headlights in the respect that i can make them work with turning the switch on and off or wiggling the steering wheel.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I love my new car but I do need reliable headlights....

this may sound silly, but have you checked the wires and plugs/connectors? anything loose?

They claim that they have. It has been into the Dealership 3 times now for this same issue. The first time it was there they tried to fix it by replacing a bulb, which i knew was not the answer!

relay module?

I dont think that it could be a relay module if my twisting the steering wheel remedies the problem........ more likely a short......
What can you do with a dealership that pretty much refuses to investigate anything other than what their diagnostic computer tells them? ( which appears to be a wild goose chase, and a expense one at that!)

3k is ridiculous my friend. if its the headlamp assemblies (which would basically mean bad ballasts), you can buy those in flawless working condition for under $800 if you look around. sounds like more of a wiring issue though?

Definately a wiring issue........ but who would you take it to ?????? i need someone to trace the probelm down and the MB dealership is stricktly by the computer diagnostics........not to mention reccomending fixes that cost thousands in HOPES that it may remedy the problem.

i would say an independent with some good wiring knowledge (u'd have to ask around)....or u could spend some time troubleshooting if u know what you're doing.if the steering wheel really causes some changes, then it sounds like a short there in the column, maybe with the bright switch.
