CLK55 AMG modifying

I just got a 2005 clk55 amg cabriolet and of course love it. I've seen you guys post a lot about modifications and am interested. The problem is I live in Birmingham AL and am having trouble finding anyone who does benz modifications here. I called a guy who owns a shop that repairs mb. He said headers always leak and don't delete resonator or cats as a certain amount of back-pressure is needed. While that seems plausibe for perhaps a car with FI, I don't quite see that hurting with this car. He essentially said don't mess with the perfection of mb amg. I've also heard an ECU upgrade for this car is a waste of time/money. I assume there is at least someone in Atlanta that does benz mods but not sure. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

thanks,
mcs

There are plenty of mods for the clk55. They're expensive though. Buckhead Mercedes has a big performance shop. Their prices are pretty high, but it's reputable I believe.

The two best modifications you can do are performance exhaust headers and crank pulley. You are correct the software does not do that much unless you have many modifications done already to the engine. Here are some basic modifications you can do to the car:

- K&N airbox filters
- high flow secondary cats (won't hurt back pressure like primaries)
- headers
- pulley
- ECU upgrade
- weight reduction

That is a good starting point, hope that helps.

$100 - K&N airbox filters
$200+ labor - high flow secondary cats primaries)
$1699 - Pulley & Headers (AMS Stage 2 Perf pack)
$350-650 - ECU upgrade
Depends - weight reduction

That is a rough estimate, hope that helps

K&N's definitely help the car breathe better. Believe it or not, but the OEM air filters are the same in a CLK320 and a CLK55 AMG!

ECU reflash is another easy way for power. Investing in good tires (Michelin PS2s FTW!) and some weight reduction is also a good idea.

03 CLK 55 AMG, IMCO muffler/Magnaflow tips, KW V1 coilovers, 19" Petrol Metrix Wheels
I focused on the suspension, exhaust, and wheels/tires. Upgraded to a coilover suspension (KW V1), added a nice four chamber muffler and Stainless tips (IMCO & Magnaflow), added some forged two piece 19" wheels (Rays). I also painted the rear calipers silver to match the front and added spacers on all four corners to get the stance perfect. Other than that drive and enjoy. Unless you supercharge or turbo the car any engine modification is not going to be worth it in my opinion. Adding 10-15hp is not worth it for the money you will spend. Better to get the car to handle, sound, and look a little bit better in my opinion.

Nice! When you painted your calipers, did they repaint amg back on them? I thought about painting mine black but not sure how it would look.

thx,
