stock CLK55 front brake system?
I have 4 AMG rotors, 2 front CLK55 calipers and brake lines. Has anyone sold their stock AMG system after modding out. Are they worth enough money to sell, or do should we keep them just in case?
I'm not sure what to do with em, I'm leaning towards keeping them in case the car gets sold one day, but my stomach turns just thinking of that notion.
I need some help, please, feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Not on this car, yet!
But I've sold allot of stuff on e-bay. 99.9% of the transactions are smooth as silk. Every once in awhile you'll get an idiot. But I just move on.
Best of luck to ya,

Thanks JamE55,
Yeah, it'll be a headache to sell em, too much of a premium on them.
Although, I cant think of ever selling this car, if that day does come, I should have the stock system just in case.
They're both great systems (AMGs are heavier), but I might run into a buyer who hasn't a clue of what Brembos are.
Thanks for the reply,
Joe

Will the CLK 430 accept the CLK 55 brakes and discs as drop-ins?
I assume that the 55's brakes are stronger than the 430's? The 208 CLK 55 doesn't have drilled discs or the AMG ensignia on the calipers do they?

The brakes from the 55 will bolt onto the 430 (providing you use everything, not just rotors). They use a 4-piston front caliper, but it is not Brembo-made as the new AMG brakes are.

Braincuttermd, are you a neurosurgeon, or is this just a name?
Anyway, to answer your question, no, the rotors are not cross-drilled, nor are the calipers painted. The Calipers are as Mach430 stated, but also have the "AMG" logo stenciled into the side.
The AMGs are a great system. I never worried about stopping in time. I just personally feel that they're outdated and are not as efficient as they should be. If you ever did decide to run the car, I don't feel that the rotors would be able to stand the heat for too long. As far as strength, the AMGs are in about the same class as the Brembos in stopping power for the everyday street. However, this opinion is coming from a guy who drives his car very carefully, and can count on hand how many power stops in the last 2+ yrs he's had to make. The original brake pads had about 16.3K when the system was swapped out, and still have > 50% pad life remaining.
The Brembo brake system is definitely much lighter than the AMG Calipers and rotors. The Brembos also seem to have a significantly greater pad-disc surface contact area, this obviously aids in their efficiency. The rotors also come cross-drilled to dissipate heat, aiding further in efficiency. To prevent brake noise, they use this "floating disc".
Overall, both systems feel very competent, although the Brembo system would probably hold-up allot better under extended periods of extreme heat. The quality in the Brembo system is of course superb, but then again, AMG also produces a system which is amongst the top of the class.
If I could have found an upgraded kit for the factory AMGs that included bigger rotors, which were both cadmium plated and cross-drilled, I would have stuck with the stock.
Hope this helps, and good luck to you Doc.

Joe,
Do you still have those rotors for sale. I'd be interested in the rotors or rotors w/pads. Let me know CypressKB@hotmail.com
