Hey Andy,

so if you buy the fluid evacuator you dont need to do anything on the drain plug? I was thinking that the fluid evacuator will only help to push the oil out of the engine into the drain plug...

It is kinda hard to think that there is something that can suck all the oil upwards.... so does that fluid evacuator really works?

Quote: Got you . thats jsut another way to do it.

I use the oil excavator. You won't need to do anything with the drain plug, you won't even need to get under the car. Mercedes techs use the excavator also if I'm not mistaken. From what I hear, it won't remove the same amount of oil as draining will (obviously cuz you're sucking instead of letting gravity push everything out) but whatever's leftover won't make any noticeable difference.

Enough said and not sure this is apply for everyone (CLK500) but after I sucked all the oil out from exvacuator I only need 8 qt to put it back in...yes it was exactly 8qt caused I checked and it said the level is "OK" and maybe you need 8.5 then ? who knows ? just checked it. I had a good deal on those oil Mobil 1 0w-40 at autozone...they sold 10 qt for $59.99 after tax and gave me free 2 filters too LOL. I picked 1 for my lexus and the other filter for my honda. Done that like 2 weeks ago.

Meaning you have to wait for like 5 or 10 minutes depending how hot the engine is....thats why you gotta measure twice.

Yes, I do the same thing. I get two filters for my 6L gm trucks. The filters cost me $15 each at benz, I get two then go over to a buddy's house and we do two at once. I actually watch him do it and I drink his beer. (I only had to show him once and now he does it for fun)

in San Francisco, 0w40 mobil 1 is actually cheapest at the dealer

I went to the local kragens and it was over $8.50 per quart. At the dealer I believe it was only $7.20.

I also purchased the filter from there, but if you buy it online, it's a bit cheaper.

I see.. I am in SacTown... and the reason why I need to change the oil coz I never had a chance to check when is the service... it says that I still have 10,600 miles to go before the Service B pop-ups... but when I went to San Francisco and around the area... I was not driving all slow... lol.. I even have an encounter with an EVO 8.. and yada yada...

I just want to be on the safe side... I'ts been around 2mos since I got my clk500... and never had a change to know when was the last oil change or checkup...

Where in frisco are you from henry47?

Amen. I didn't go to school to work on cars and I'm too busy making money to change oil. lol

My dealership had a special last week....$85 for an oil change (using Mobil 1). I jumped all over that. Didn't care if the CLK needed one or not.

I actually don't use an evacuator. I just drain it with the oil plug

Hey Andy,

Did you buy the excavator from the site you posted? I tried buying there too, but my order status is still pending shipment. I think its been 4days with that status. I also tried calling them with no success, is that site still alive? lol

ahhhh... i just tried using the excavator and was only able to take out 4qrts of oil....

I tried removing and putting back the tube and making sure its at the bottom already.. but cannot suck more oil anymore.. I also tried checking oil level in the dash.. it says add 2qrts to reach maximum oil level.. obviously there is still more oil in the engine that wasnt taken off...

what am I doing wrong here?

i know! lol... it took me almost 4hours to do an oil change! it feels like the tube cannot reach the very bottom of the oil pan or maybe its just me...

I tried playing around with the tube too to reach the bottom.. and I think it did reach the bottom but on the wrong side... was able to take 4quarts on the left side... (4quarts on the right side i guess)

last option was to take off the plastics beneath and untorque the plug.. AND BOOM! 4 more quarts splashed in the bucket!

yep yep....

I was surprised though... because I heard/read that MB's used oil is supposed to be still clear like it is brand new.. but mine was dark and is really really 'USED' oil.. it looks like its been a while since the car had an oil change...

"left side Right side"???? There is one oil sump... right at the bottom!LOL. I think you did something wrong cause it's really a snap and at 20 min on your driveway WAYYYYYYYYYY quicker and cheaper than making the trek to the dealer or shop.

I actually do not know as well! LOL

That is why i said "i guess"... if I was on the right bottom... lol..

I tried dipping the tube and I can see the marks of the oil.. I also tried checking how long was I able to sink the tube and its LONGGGGGGG!!!

It even reached the floor when I measure it outside from the point of entry and to the floor... again I was able to suck out 4quarts only... and the thing stop pouring oil to the excavator.. I tried pumping again maybe it was out of air.. but still the same its sucking air in the engine instead of oil...

Well it was my first time using the excavator.. maybe I can try doing it on my bike or truck and get it right... But I still think draining by plug is way better... but is harder...
