New here, on the hunt for a clk55 amg!

Sup guys. I currently own an 03 evolution and have been in the DSM/Evo world for a while. I'm starting to lose interest in the car, strip scene. I mean I do have project cars laying around.

I have always loved the 03-up clk55s and am considering getting one. Perhaps someone on here wants a 430whp+ evo....consistent mid to low 11 second 1/4 times!

What should I look for guys? How is the reliability on a MB. This will be my first one.

Personally looking for either black or white. I found one in my area (MA) for 19,999. 2003 Black 56k.

If I were looking for a W209 CLK55 coupe, I'd look for a 2005. The 2005 had the upgraded exhaust, revised NAV, and larger brakes. 2005 was the last year for the CLK55 Coupe. Some 2003's with Valeo radiators have been known to have issues. As it is with many cars, the trans cooler is part of the radiator. On some Valeos, the seal between the engine coolant and the trans fluid leaks, allowing antifreeze to pass through the trans. Antifreeze ruins the clutch packs and the rebuild is expensive. Other than that, there are minor issues/wear items that a DIY'r can typically fix.

As far as reliability, for a high performance car, they aren't bullet proof, but they're close.

Compared to a DSM and EVO anything is considered reliable.

The drivetrain on these things are pretty stout. You'll just have to worry about little things, lights going and such.

From my reading on here, what seems to go are the cats, motor mounts, seat motors, and CD Changer.

I would also look for an 05.

Thanks guys. I have been doing more and more research and would also not mind an 03+ C32 AMG. I guess they are much harder to find because I don't see any on CL and very few on autotrader.

Whoa! No one mentioned the 04 W209 The 04's are solid...minus the 05 upgrades...can't go wrong with an 04 or 05....good luck finding one though. MB only made 509 CLK's in 2004! Not sure about how many were made in 2005.

I have an 02 CLK55 which I love but just saw a black 2005 last Sun. Man, those are sweet. Love the quad exhaust and upgraded interior.

I'm not 100% sure but I think there maybe more mods available for the 209? That is if you're looking to go down that road.
