CLK63: Illuminated trunk?

Help!

I recently had some work done on my '07 CLK63 which required access to some electronics via the trunk (the driver's seat electronics packed up). Now, I'm fairly certain that I used to have a light inside the trunk (and it's mentioned on the CLK63 specs cited on this forum as "illuminated trunk") but mine is now completely dark! Should there be, by any chance, a light on the left hand side of the trunk (looking form the rear)? At the moment, all I have is a suspicious square opening in the carpeting...

Just want to check before I start yelling at the dealership (again).

Thank you - is it on the left hand side (looking into the trunk)?

kevbah - your post encouraged me to go poking around in the trunk (I also found a photo in the owner's manual that showed what looked like a light unit in the trunk). When I lifted the spare wheel cover, I saw a light shining!

By opening up the carpeted panels, I found the light assembly lying amongst all the wires of the tail lights! The careless mechanics at the dealership forgot to put the unit back in place after working on the car. Attention to detail really isn't their strong point, it seems.

Thanks for the help - problem solved.

Hi mate.

It's great to see another CLK63!!

Don't see many on the forums.

How are you finding her?
Still grinning ridiculously?

LOL

Do you have the Coupe?... or is that your convertible on your signature?

There's no doubt that MB created something wonderful when they built this car. I could not be happier

I have the cabriolet, exactly as per my sig.

You have the same?

You're absolutely right.
Mercedes Benz, back to building cars as they should, couple with the new breed of AMG engineering.

Gotta hand it to the Germans.
They know how to build a car!

I have the Coupe.
I was very lucky to find it.

A Black Series passed me on the road one day (I followed him until he stopped. Then took pics! haha), but I have yet to see another 63 Coupe.

CLK 55 ///AMG Cabrio, ML63 ///AMG
As much as I luv the CLK63 Cabrio, 2 things irk me about it:
- Exhaust on only the driver's side of the car - should be both sides!!!
- Car lacks masculine feel that was last seen in 2002/2003 (W208) model. It should have either offered a sportier version that has body colour matched moldings (not chrome) and "beefier" fenders like the Black Series.

With that said, my next purchase will probably be the CLK 63 Cab. But I won't be happy spending the $ on the mods to "fix" the shortcomings.

Couldn't agree more - tailpipes should be on both sides and the flared arches (a la Black) would be amazing.

Having said that, there's something to be said for the understated nature of the vehicle.

Rashman, your lovely CLK63 coupe is just like my '98 Volvo C70 (which I will never sell) only twice as powerful

Absolutely.

To the un-trained eye, it passes as "just another Benz"...

Heehee.... the fools!

Besides, I believe that the CLK63 AMG's could well be more exclusive than Blackie.

I see many Blackie's on forums, but no 63 AMG's.

To use your words, Slartey.... WooHoo!!

As for the Volvo... man, I had no idea of the similiarities!!
Ooer!! haha

FYI, I have a CLK BS and my light is clearly visible and located in the center on the bottom side of the painted metal interior, however, I don't have any interior lights in the location you have mentioned. I changed my bulb to LED, it provides more light than the stock bulb.

Hi mate.

You have a Black Series?

Well done, old bean.

On the note of changing bulbs, have you swapped out your interior bulbs too?

I have blue LED's that I want to install but I am not sure how to remove the lense cover for the lights up near the rear view mirror.
It's very securely in place.

The others should be any problem.

Are you able to help me out?

Whats up Rashman, the map lights up by the rearview are 194 bulbs. The entire component comes down via two clips. Then you should able to replace them easy.

Hope this helps!!

BTW, I live in the states and have yet to see a non BS 63 coupe.. really wierd

Perhaps Mercedes knew they were going to be bringing out the BS CLK and didn't want to cannabalize their market for a CLK AMG coupe in their biggest AMG market. They never sold the CLK63 coupe (non-BS) in the US, just the cabriolet.

Fine by me, as I live in sunny California

Thanks very much for the tip.
I was expecting the lense covers to pop off like they did in the 208.

What you're saying makes good sense.

Yeah, the CLK63 coupes are definately few and far between.. especially in the States.

Slartey might be on to something.
Makes sense.
I think that the US climate may also play a part too.

We tend to get the more colder, wet climate. I guess they thought the coupe would be in more demand over here.

I do feel for you guys in the States though.
I'm sure most people (non car enthusiast - or "civi's", as I like to call them) who want a Benz would be happy to pick up a convertible.

But that, in turn, kicks you car enthusiasts in the nuts.

Yeah, sounds like a good compromise to me.

I've only seen one other CLK63 coupe on the forums I use.
It's way over in Australia.

I sent him a message the other day, just to see how he's getting on.
I was glad to hear that he still has it.
