Resanator Delete?

Would I lose HP/TRQ if I deleted my resanator? I want a litte more agressive tone and already have high flow cats.

Thanks for the feed back!!!

I was actually interested in doing the same thing. But I had read and heard people say that it DOES make you lose low end torque and a little horsepower. People have reported loss in power/response from a dead stop, loss of back pressure had something to do with it. I have been wanting to delete my resonator but the power loss is just not worth the sound difference to me. When I had my BMW 540I, I had put a Magnaflow muffler and deleted my resonator at the same time, I had actually felt a noticeable power loss. Just my experience with a different car, but I know that Mercedes (and almost every other car) would have the same issue when deleting the resonator and losing back pressure.

I deleted it back in June and haven't have any problems. No loss that I could feel

That is exactly what frustrates me, I hear mixed experiences and different outcomes. I did experience power loss on my BMW, but thats a different car. Then again other Mercedes owners have complained about power loss I dont know, guess I will just stick to the stock setup until I get my Supersprint full exhaust

i deleted my resonator and secondary cats...throaty and throttle response improved....

according to ams...secondary cats removed gained ~ 10hp/12tq on the dyno...

There's your answer, you deleted your secondary cats WITH the resonator. But if you JUST delete the resonator you lose back pressure, and on some cars the power loss is not noticeable but it is there. I wish I could delete my secondary cats, but it wont pass emissions here.

i had high flow cats with resonator first, then had high flows without resonator, then took them all out....

high flow without resonator didn't make much of a difference in sound or loss in hp/tq...

deleting secondary cats and resonator made a significant difference in throttle response, throaty sound, and minor increase in hp/tq...

no one can really tell you losing or gaining except you put your car on Dyno before and after. And if you ask me did i lose any power..the answer is no. I had mine second cats and resonator deleted but feeling is feeling ..cant tell for sure.

Resonators exist for sound dampening...can't imagine any noticeable losses. I removed that 3 ft res and the 2nd cats and it sounds n responds MUCH better. Do it, hands down!!

i just removed my sec cats and to me i cant notice any diff other then in sound.losing 1 hp/tq is worth it. if ur worried about losing hp/tq eventually if u buy headers u will gain it all back plus more.theres no real way to no for sure unless u dyno.i say just do it and look into get n some headers also.

AMS said there was a horsepower/torque loss? I think I remeber reading something on that. Had to do with back pressure or something. AMS, any comments? Or anyone who has proven this with a dyno?

Thanks!

according to AMS Performance:

2nd cat removal = 13HP / 19TQ (on DD dyno)
High flow 2nd cat = 10HP / 12TQ (on DD dyno)

The 2003 CLK55 doesn't. Not sure about '04 and '05's.

After much research and headaches from head-pounding against a wall on this decision, I got my resonator and secondary cats removed. Still on stock muffler and its like music to my ears.. still, the volume could go higher

Not taking credibility from your statement but I wouldn't think 10, however definetly an increase. Low end difference is minimal, its once you have her screaming she shows' shes gained experience. could just be me

So would deleting the 2nd cats and res on my clk55 have the same power gains?

Ok I think I may do it but I had one more question.

Is there a certain angle my Y pipe has to be? Or length?

If I was to delete my 2nd cats, resanator and then put one high flow cat where the resanator was how would that effect performance?

2002 CLK55
Ok, my first post as a Mercedes owner:

I just picked up a 2002 CLK55 Convertible.

I've seen a couple threads like this one talking about higher flow cats. I'm not really looking for HP but the one thing I REALLY don't like about this car is how quiet it is. I'd like a little bit of sound out of the exhaust. A nice sound of course. What high flow cats does everyone recommend if I'm trying to keep the cost reasonable? I saw a thread with some from ebay but it was a few years ago. What's the best currently available? How about mufflers?

I guess I'm looking for opinions as to what you'd do to a stock CLK55 (short of a complete new exhaust) to get some nice music out of it?

THanks for all the help. This forum has been great this last month as I looked for the vehicle I wanted.
