Thinking of buying my car back after an accident...

So, my beautiful car got hit by a drunk guy(totaled) which is really sad cuz I love the car and I don't want to let it go...the insurance is offering me 10,000 plus the car or 13,000 without the car...

I'm thinking of buying the car back and fixing it, I know it will have salvage title but it's my car and I know how good I took care of it so I don't car...the damage is not that bad, it's certainly fixable and here in Cali people fix totally smashed cars and comes out to be better than it was, and my damage doesn't seem too bad, no frame damage my door closes fine it's mostly just outside...so what do you guys think...

On the other side I wanna get some new rims

Just for reference I've been quoted $5-6K for a total repaint of my clk to the orig color with no body damage.

If you have a friend who has a body shop who will do the work for cheap, then go for it..... but if you're paying retail like me..... I'd take the 13K and get your next fun ride.

It doesn't look that bad and door skin and back 1/4 panel - bits of trim etc and paint - I assume it still drives ok and is straight - no damage to chassis - my guy at the local paint shop (ok I'm in the UK of A) did both full sides and bonnet on mine for £1500 so ish $2500. Then you spend the rest on a supercharger kit/wheels or similar

Easy fix.........replace door(find a used one), replace 1/4 panel, repair outer wheelhouse and paint entire side of car. There are plenty of hack shops in Cali that would fix it all for $4-5k which would leave you $5k for some fancy new wheels.

Alright that is it I'm buying it back...ya there is no damage to anything else, car drives straight and everything is good...I can fix this whole thing for 2000-3000 and I'm not gonna change the quarter panel maybe the door...the chances of the fix going bad when changing the quarter is higher than fixing it like this plus like you guys said that would put me around 5000-7000 range...

It involves a lot of work when changing the quarter panel, not counting that they have to remove the side window, back window and pretty much everything else on that side...I would feel like my car is a half car sewed to another car. I don't wanna rip the car apart from its original shape...

hey man i do have a side damage as you are and I'm fixing my car my self this is what I'm doing for my living and parts is cheep for this car the door is 200-350 the 1/4 panel is 150-400 so wot you need is fined a small body shop so they will do the work for you to replace a 1/4 panel and door is about 500-800 to paint a side of your car about 600-900 it is depending on body shop and make shore you look at the cars that they fix be for

my advise to you is go ahead change 1/4 panel
if not you will and up with about 1-3 pounds of body filler on your car and you don't wont that

the wide body is good idea
if i was you i wold go for it

but it is allot of money the kit is about 3500 and labor will be about about 3500-4500 for every thing and you will need to repaint all car

and one more thing make inshurance company to live you a clean title if you not going to tell them thay will give you a salvege one

and sorry for my English

Ya exactly I don't want tons of filler on my car but at the same time I don't want to touch the original 1/4 panel and sew another one on...but I'll see what they say and imma make sure they know what their doing...

Thanks for the advice...

You could always part it out. Offer the engine for $1500 OBO and it'll be gone in days. List the transmission for $750 OBO and there will be a bidding war. Offer me the entire exhaust for $200 for giving you a good idea.

At that point you've recouped $2450 of the $3K and you still have the wheels, brakes, complete interior, electronics, suspension, and most of the body. When you're done making money, you can call the wrecker and get your garage back.

Loll, I love the car I don't want to do that...I can sell the car here in this condition for at least 5k if not more, but I want it back I found new wheels and everything it's like having a new car again for some reason...right now I just want a little more than what their offering so we'll see how that goes...

This is a no brainer to me. 3k for the entire car?! Buy another one just like it and use the heads, ecu, tcu and intake off this one as cores. Remove whatever necessary to bring your new clk to spec n part the rest for profit.

P.S. Keep the brake rotors too

That's wht I thought too...this car is worth way more than this and we all know how insurance companies work with their evaluation...so imma buy it back and then think bout wht to do with it...if I wasn't going to school right now and working full time I would've thought bout a supercharger but this money will help alot and possibly keep me alive until I finish...which is why i wanna buy the car back and just fix it and keep the rest...
