My exhaust project, am i insane??
I plan on modifying my entire exhaust system, some of it is already done. I've already gutted all 4 cats, gonna put on shorty headers but the big piece is a re-work of the cat back system complete to my spec.
What i plan on doing is installing a dual-inlet/dual-outlet muffler in place of the resonator and installing 2 resonators downstream going out to a pair of staggered tips(not the fakes ones).
you're thinking it will not work bc the clk 55 amg has no provisions for dual exhaust to work with the stock body kit. Here is the crazy part: im going to have a fabricator install a diagonal exhaust tunnel through the spare tire well in the trunk to make it happen(as well as notch the other side of the stock bumper). it will be true dual exhaust.
the hp out vs the $$$ in is ridiculous but the sound and look should be truly unique. i know i should just buy a body kit that has a rear bumper that hangs down lower to allow the exhaust to be installed for the same price or cheaper. Most of the kits i have seen still remind me of rice a little(plus i like the stock body kit) and i dont want to stray too far away from making it look like something other than what it really is.
so how nuts am i?

I've seen staggered tips on other German sports cars and like the look, its relatively new when compared to traditional tips and plus it seems like the "European" thing to do.

There will be one difference tho; these tips are round instead of the oval ones the manufacturer offers. I think it will make it look more aggressive.

Good luck with the project, I bought round staggered tips as well but they won't work for what I have in mind, I need to go with oval.

i just read through pte's thread and it does give me a few ideas as well as a little peek into some things i may run into. also read the thread of someone else that put a dual exhaust system on a w208.
