Really want a CLK 55
Hi, I am looking at a 2003 CLK 55 with 48XXX miles.
A few questions since I dont know much about these cars:
Any common major failures?
Best exhaust system with no drone?
Recalls I need to check for?
Major services?
LSD?
I realize this is a luxury car but is it a decent canyon carver? Are the paddles worth using? I am going to test drive one before I make a decision but I would appreciate some input from owners. This would be a DD.
-Thanks!

Check for any strange noises clunks when going over speed bumps and with wheel lock to lock. My 2004 clk55 at 20K miles had to have some front end links replaced this year.
Also have an inspection performed on the car before buying:
Issues:
1. Glycol contamination of radiator fluid from radiator into trans fluid..... kills transmission, tq convertor, and radiator... can be very expensive.
2. Motor Mounts
3. Front suspension components.

This is geared more toward a W208, so ignore the bits about suspension and dash pixels. However, you may find it helpful. In general, CLKs are very dependable cars.

Does NOT come with LSD. Can be bought from vendor.
Not sure if this is the biggest. LMK if you know of another busy clk forum.
Also check out the non-amg clk w209 forum here. More foot traffic than the amg spec forum.

Bought my car new in April 2003. I have about 49K miles on her right now. So far the only expensive thing I've had to fix was the fuel pump. Cost about $2K
Other than that, great car!

I am looking to buy one and will share anything interesting with you, if you

I have had my CLK55 convertible since 2005, and put around 60k miles on it, and I never had a major problem. In my opinion it is more of a cruiser, than a pure sports car.

2005 CLK 55 AMG
Nice, Congrats! Watch for the tranny electrical connector they leak. First thing I bought was the dipstick to check the condition and level of transmission oil.
