Hello guys, I just put one of my cars for sale and soon will be looking to buy a W209 CLK. been wanting one for a long time now. My question is which one would you go with? I'm not looking to spend more than $25K and it looks like there is about 10 550's listen on Cars.com and a bunch of 55's a bit older but i dont mind. I really like the front end of the 550 and it has more power and its newer than the 55's i can get for that price. But i think the seats are very Blah on the 550 and i love the 55 seats. so if anybody can chime in and share their opinion i would appreciate it!

Honestly before pulling the plug I test drove both and to my surprise the 550 was overall better than the 55 EXCEPT for the aggressiveness & the exhaust note.
It all depends on what you're looking for in a coupe. You should know the 550 has more power than the 55 (382hp vs. 367hp) and it ges better MPG as in much better.
If you go for the 55 you'll have the old interior, old tailights & it will most probably have more miles on it.

I really think the post facelifted W209 is sexier so I say 550.

such a hard decision!!!

Most of the 550's have more luxury geared interiors and finishes.... wood trim, cushy seating...... not my preference..... BUT they do get the better motor, trans, and HP/TQ... a little faster in 1/4 mile too.

I prefer the al/silver interior trim vs the wood, and I like the AMG trim pkg better. I'll make up for the HP diff with Kleemann

Also if you plan to mod.... I don't know if there is much motor wise for the 550? Cams, blower avail is ????

YUP hard decision. I did say overall the 550 was better but I still went for the 55. I dont care what people say a 550 is not an AMG PERIOD.

I see that 55 you're looking at is a 2005 with what seems to be updated console and IT HAS QUADS!! If it's your favorite color and meets your expectations then jump on it man!!

Also don't discount the CLK63 (non - bs).... they are out there.... and in hind site I prob should have found one of those to play with......

Also consider a E55 (non supercharged) they are GREAT bargains and you can haul 2 extra dates.

After owning a few AMG's i think i'll never buy a non-amg again but since for the money i can get a much newer 550 I think I'll go for the 550 and find some AMG seats from a crashed 55 or something. thanks for you opinion guys.

Glad to hear you made your decision. You will not be disappointed with the 550 & its amount of torque!
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I am asking because you mentioned you were still in school & I see that you drive C43, C63, A6 and C230. Thats quite a fleet of cars for someone who's in school. Not that I am doubting you btw...

Sorry to say that but the white 55 is a hell of a lot better looking than the 550. Been there and chose the 55 because of the deal I got. You've got big brakes, better interior, forged internals, quad exhaust, sport suspension nicer tail lights. It's a real AMG.

Anyways, I don't think you will be disappointed with either cars and the 550 got better mileage. white will def turn heads more. Good luck !

turned 24 jan 28th, I only paid for the 43, wifey paid for the 63, and she inherited the 230K from her father when he passed away, and the Audi I use everyday but its my Little brothers. If it said "owns" instead of "Drives" under the info you would only see the "43" listed as it is the only car under my name.

550's the faster car and the newer of the cars, save about 2 grand more than the price of the car itself and get coil overs and a quad exhaust and now you have a faster, better handling car with the same looks

there are so few of these special clk's (both 550's and 55's) that we do not need to get into a $issing match about which is better. Both are limitied run unique cars which are so close in design.features, powertrain that you can't go wrong.

Looks like the white one is already gone...never seen one in white damn it looked good. 4k cheaper also. That makes good funding for headers, tune, lsd and even a sub box.

I dont know where youre getting your information from but amg is the better handling car. The suspension is much stiffer and theres less body roll when you take a quick turn. You can tell the difference between the ride, its like night and day. The 550 only has 15hp more than the amg but the amg is still going to be slightly quicker. It all depends what you are looking for, updated looks with a smoother luxury ride or an amg with a stiffer/sportier suspension, amg exhaust and bigger brakes
