I took my car to my exhaust shop today with the intent of removing the resonator like Ive seen done on C55s. But it doesnt have one

Interesting. Either the previous owner had it removed or your mechanic has no idea what hes talking about.

Is your car loud at all? I mean you should be able to tell if its stock or not

 

I'd imagine that the previous owner did that already. Common modification, and I really like to hope that a mechanic would know what a resonator is regardless of the make/model of a car.

 

My 2004 CLK55 did NOT come with a resonator. Just cats and the AMG muff.

 

Factory? Hmmm, that's interesting if it came that way.

 

Yes, do a search, I believe the US models did not have them for certain years, and the UK models had them.

 

If you want more tone..... replace the 2ndary cats with 300 cel metal matrix cats. do a search on this to find where to buy. Makes a nice sound and a little performance to boot.

 

I looked myself....no resonator. The car is very quiet.

Same here. Im doing a daul conversion with one side being an electric cutout w/ no muffler.

 

I got one.

 

Read somewhere it was Non-us spec cars that had the resonator.

 

I got cats and a Y-pipe that leads to a resonator

 

That would non-us spec and California cars... got the res.

 

My 2003 CLK55 does NOT have a resonator. Not sue about the other years.

 

ive got a 2003 clk55 amg and that had no resonator only primary and secondary cats the later models had resonators. i had my secondary cats removed and replaced with straight pipes doesn't sound much different but u do get a little more burble and throttle response is better lower down.it sailed through the mot emissions test no probs, worth getting done.
