A farking Camry

Hey all,

Did a few forum searches, but couldn't find pertinent info. Last night I was rear ended. I was stopped waiting to turn left, and a camry plowed into me at a low enough speed to avoid airbag deployment. The bumper is toast cosmetically of course. However the beam behind the bumper cover if you will seems to be deflected inward an inch or so. Is this an impact beam that can be replaced or is this a part of the unibody/frame? If so I'm worried they'll total it. The exhaust is slightly cocked at an angle but I'm not certain if that's the bumper or the muffler that is truly off. I'm okay, no injuries on all sides. However I'm pretty nervous about the claims rep coming to look it over. I still owe on the car, and frankly I was totally in love with it. So are there any other things I should be looking for after a rear impact while at a standstill?

Sorry to hear, I don't think there is enough damage to consider it totaled. Hope everything works out for you.

The rear reinforcement bar can be replaced. That plus the bmpr wont total the car.

Im not a fan of the chrome. You will never see such a thing in Europe, its an american thing and it makes the car look cheap imo.

Yeeeeah came with the car. I've been returning it to stock shape cosmetically ever since I got it. Including the logo on the trunk lid that said 'Playa'. The fiance wasn't having it. But those chrome rings are next.

Update, the appraiser came to look at it this morning at work. They will cover the bumper, anything they find when the bumper is removed, and have the exhaust looked at back to front for leaks/kinks. They're ready to cut the check once I talk to a body shop, plus a check for a rental. I'll have a thrash a crap box for a week or so but soon I'll be back in the CLK.

As long as the rails of the sub chassis are not tweaked, the bumper cross member can be replaced and it should not count as frame damage. Ask the body shop how they will have your insurance company report it to Carfax.
